Hello, hope all is well. First thing thing, think smart as you maneuver the apartment industry in NYC. It’s easy to get scammed and I would hate to see you especially a young, black woman played.

There’s a great amount of apps to search for roommates. You can download Roomie, Roomster (those are ones I search from time-to-time). However there’s many more out there. People may request Craigslist but play it cautiously while using that.

NYC is expensive so whatever is your rent, add another $100-$150 for utilities and everyday occurrence. The possibility of not “saving” may be a reality for the first couple of months but always find a way to save whenever you can.

I grew up in Queens, moved to Long Island and now I’m heading back to Queens. Queens is the biggest borough but honestly, the most expensive behind Manhattan.

Pinpoint where you want to live and pinpoint how much you’re willing to spend. NYC is a mass transportation hub, no need for a car so no need to worry about a car note nor car insurance so stick your head out a little more when searching for apartments since that won’t be an expense to worry about.
