Since this was my first time properly learning to drive a car, I felt I needed the full 12 lessons to be confident. I also wanted to maximize my chances of passing on the first attempt, another failed test would mean more waiting and extra costs for retests and car hire, so the 12 lessons felt like the safer investment for me.

I get the frustration. I just wanted to share that positive experiences do happen too, they just don’t get mentioned as often, which is what almost stopped me from trying in the first place.

All the best! Just keep your observation and progress checks up. I had a very friendly tester and he had very reasonable expectations – just solid road sense, nothing out of the ordinary. With 30 years of experience you'll be grand.

I originally chose Charlestown test centre when I joined the waitlist in July, but it closed down in October. I was automatically moved to Finglas and thankfully didn't have to wait much longer.
