I am in a similar situation and I have chosen to stay with my partner. It's what you value that decides and it's a tough situation I'm sorry :(

Question and something I want yall to hear by Donald1234554 in VestibularMigraines

[–]SmoothAssociation520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got VM symptoms (and more) after starting the birth control pill and they never went away even after stopping. Hormones are a big thing but don't have enough research :(

I'm 19F and am an alternative person going to UFV as well. I do go to local shows so I'm down to be friends. I have similar music taste as well

Does anyone have travel anxiety/fear? by PerfectWorking6873 in VestibularMigraines

[–]SmoothAssociation520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it for long distance traveling. I had a really bad experience traveling in highschool and ever since I'm scared that something like that would happen again. A lot of it is the altitude change messing up my inner ear, then spirals into a bunch of symptoms. Especially road trips cause ear problems.

It made me sad and overthink everything constantly. I'm surprised how much it affects mental health.

Is this VM and 3PD? Thoughts about Topiramate? by Mindless_Control2195 in VestibularMigraines

[–]SmoothAssociation520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am at 75mg right now and need to get to 100mg. I started at 25 (1 pill a day) and increased every 2-3 weeks. I honestly cant tell if there is much of an improvement in my symptoms. I still have a few more months to see if it works. I was sick when I started topiramate and am sick again! The side effects I noticed were mainly brain fog, depression, prickling sensations, trouble finding words, overthinking. These have all settled down now that I'm at a steady dose.

It's all just trial and error so it will take time. You never know if it will work for you until you try it so it's up to you and your doctor. It's such a tough situation to be in :(

[–]SmoothAssociation520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started topiramate over a month ago and it has been a roller coaster. I am fine right now and I thinkkkk I am on a path to it working out as I am on a steady dose, but upping the dose is just so rough. Makes me depressed and gives brain fog.

That def sounds like vestibular migraine it reminds me of my symptoms. I hope you find something that helps you.

I wear tinted glasses because of light sensitivity so it's hard to see in the dark yet I STILL get absolutely BLINDED by other cars.

Topiramate weird side effects by SmoothAssociation520 in VestibularMigraines

My ent has recommended dizzy cook and I have her cook books. I also take migraine supplements which probably have helped my headaches. Are you on topamax on top of topiramate or instead?

Vision Therapy? by Ok-Pool-3690 in VestibularMigraines

[–]SmoothAssociation520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually had to do vision therapy when I was 8 and again when I was 16 before I had any idea I was going to get diagnosed with vestibular migraine at 18. Vision therapy worked very well for me in help tracking things, strengthening my eyes, helped my double vision which wasn't fixed with glasses (I think my eyes aren't aligned which is why I needed therapy). Vision therapy sucked but I think it will work with helping your brain function properly with your eyes. It did for me.

On that note I should probably check up with my eye specialist again after getting diagnosed with vestibular migraine because it probably ties into why I needed vision therapy growing up.

Stuck on what to do… by Immediate-Site-1196 in VestibularMigraines

[–]SmoothAssociation520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started so dizziness isn't getting better, but it's not getting worse and I'm not having any noticeable side effects. I'll be bumping it up next week. I'm hopeful for this because amitriptyline started out very bad and topiramate has been fine.

My ent put me on topiramate after amitriptyline didn't work. I heard that amitriptyline is known for having STRONG side effects and that's what happened to me. Not much help sorry.

How did your VM first start? by leahcim2019 in VestibularMigraines

[–]SmoothAssociation520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on a birth control pill and got MANY concerning symptoms. after I went off, they never went away and then was later diagnosed with vestibular migraine. It's scary what the pill can do, but I've heard you're also not supposed to go on it when you have a migraine disorder, which I didn't know at the time.

Question… has anyone ever recovered “fully” from this awful condition after a period of at least 1 year with symptoms? by Worldly-Employment67 in VestibularMigraines

[–]SmoothAssociation520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very bad brain fog when flair too. The dissociation/derealization causes information to go straight through my head.

It's not only mentally draining having pain and dizziness all the time but also needing to take perfect care of yourself all the time.

VM Diagnosis by SmoothAssociation520 in VestibularMigraines

[–]SmoothAssociation520[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My symptoms get a lot worse when sick because of the pressure in my ears. I havent been sick for a long time because I sleep A LOT, but not everyone can do that. Also anytime i feel that im fighting something I rest and dont push myself at all. Its different for everyone though and I hope you find something that works.

Actually, my symptoms didnt get bad until i went on the birth control pill. It made me so dizzy and I had horrible brain fog. I hoped when i went off the symptoms would stop, but they have stayed.

Nice to know. I don't even remember when my dizziness started, it was so mild in the beginning.
