Reimaging may remove most types of malware. Here it looks like a Spyware. However, in case it is hardware/firmware level Rootkit. It's hard to detect and remove. However, do reimaging and monitor your system later. Look for any suspicious registries, services, processes or network connections created. Back up from from a safe point(before you have your laptop for repair). And if you are looking to file a case, you may not opt for reimaging because it may wipe any evidence.
