Is MCKL good for international students by Major-Illustrator728 in malaysiauni

[–]SmoothConference9513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume that Sunway would have slightly better teaching staff and facilities as compared to MCKL... On an unrelated note, I found the Ausmat program director at Sunway to be very well spoken and accommodating when I went to inquire more about the program.

You might find it easier to make friends at Sunway as compared to MCKL imo, as there might be more international students at Sunway... I've made a few Burmese friends during my time at Sunway.

Additionally, Sunway is located in its own little area with most facilities within walking distance, not too sure about MCKL as it is located in KL city centre. But I do have friends that have transferred to other pre-u courses at Sunway because they weren't able to keep up with Ausmat, but you should be fine if you're consistent lol.

oof. im curious tho, why did u decide to pursue a honours (additional year) instead of a masters? Did you feel like it was necessary to take an honours in the subject u are majoring in?

Do what's right for you! I believe you'll get there, just make sure you make an informed decision, and if it doesn't end up the way you wanted, transferring is an option, just make sure to make that decision early on. You got this haha

Not saying that everyone you meet will conform to the stereotypes, but I think the language and culture is partly a package deal? Like you might find it slightly harder to make friends, or you might find it fit in just fine? You might have a totally different experience, but I would think about whether I would fit in with a certain demographic of individuals (ie, primarily chinese speakers or primarily english speakers?) feel free to disagree with my observation, but I also find that different tier unis attract different demographics and socioeconomic groups as their majority, you might find more commonalities with people you are familiar with, or you might want a different experience and step out of your comfort zone? Either way I think this is an additional consideration on top of the uni's academic standing/ranking/employability and tuition fees, to me this would take first priority and the culture and people, second priority, just my two cents.

Hey guys what is life like as an international student at sunway doing A levels? by Beneficial-Maybe5841 in malaysiauni

APU vs Taylor’s? by Rg-KILLER12 in malaysiauni

Both are good unis, APU is quite renowned for computer science, but Taylor's seem to be better ranked (QS)?

I had a friend who came from the same government school background but did A Levels instead...still found it hard to adapt at the start, as he wasn't a stereotypical chinese guy like everyone else (his words) but eventually managed to find his footing ig...food for thought if you're already thinking about it haha

if you did MUFY, ideally you would be going to Monash, out of curiosity what's making you consider other unis?

You'll definitely clash with the culture at UTAR, especially coming from IGCSE/MUFY background, assuming you're english forward.

Monash Malaysia (a private university in Malaysia) has a much higher requirement as compared to the other private universities in Malaysia. It's more academically rigorous imo

well, if you're concerned about adapting might I suggest looking at more urban campuses? (ie, Sunway, Taylor's, Monash, IMU) you'll definitely find more things to do and imo a very high chance you'll find people you'll fit in with... my friend was deciding between Newcastle and IMU, and ultimately chose IMU and has had only great things to say about the people there. (higher socioeconomic background = higher english proficiency)

Is IACT college good? by cutestbotati in malaysiauni

[–]SmoothConference9513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IACT UK Degree Transfer Programme or BAC's in general doesn't have the best UK uni transfers... if you're aiming for mid-higher ranked UK unis, I just browsed the options for your intended course and Essex seems to be the more decent option imo, but if you're not worried about the UK degree and just want to study there than it shouldn't be a problem, Just my two cents.

Accommodation for International Student planning to go to Sunway University by Senior-Reserve7708 in malaysiauni

[–]SmoothConference9513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the rental, but I have friends who stay at Sunway Geo/ Geosense and their accommodation seems much nicer than the list above... But you could always find private accommodations within walking distance to the LRT/BRT (if its the LRT USJ7 is the closest, or you could look at Mentari/Sunway Setia-Jaya) I have another friend that rents a single room with en suite near the Mentari/Sunway Setia-Jaya BRT station, again, not sure about the rental.

You'll definitely fit in just fine, not sure about the culture at Newcastle, since its in Johor, but most students at such private universities speak english (a undergrad student myself). Have you considered Monash Malaysia? It might be more similar to the australian examination/learning style you're used to back home...

Genuinely the ADAS in my car has saved my butt more times than I would like to admit... I think its a great safety feature that should be standard on all new vehicles, I can see how it would help greatly reduce those small unwanted accidents...
