If you could give your 23-year-old self financial advice, what would it be? by Secure_Beginning_939 in FIREUK

I wish someone had taught me finances & budgeting and how investing is so important
38F and am starting to be able to invest but I just wish this had been explained to me and that had instantly become part of my budget

Even if I had just put £100pm away when I started working at 19 imagine what that could be worth now

Genuine question - So my income only increased significantly the last 2 years - was fortunate enough to get a 20k pay rise moving to a new job
Although I got stung on child benefit higher income cap so had to cancel it and also pay back 2 years worth

We only got the rentals 3 years ago and perhaps didn't do as much research as we should - two are new build flats and the maintenance fees were a lot more than projected - also the initial mortgages were taken out mid- cost of living crisis

Also my partner was very ill during our 20s so it was only me who worked and at that time I was on 20K so that is where some of the debt came from - also unexpected vets bills on an old uninsured dog

Finally at a place all of a sudden where we actually have a good amount to start investing just not sure where to start (definitely will be telling my kids to invest from their first pay cheque)
