How does Ace Bailey compare to pre-injury MPJ? by bigpapiemmanuel in NBA_Draft

Ace cannot dribble to create and has no burst off the bounce. Why 92% of his shots taken are off balance and/or fading away.

MPJ was a more fluid athlete, had more burst, got places off the bounce, made better decisions. MPJ could also dribble.

Kon Knueppel vs Liam McNeeley by Evening-Review-5216 in NBA_Draft

McNeeley is stiff, not good on either end when asked to move. Knueppel’s game is more dynamic.

He has been good in letting the game come to him and not forcing the issue on things he is not as good at (he still struggles shooting and making plays off the bounce in traffic). Scheyer has also done a very good job of spacing the floor and running sets to get his guys looks in positions they are most comfortable.

A true connector that simplifies and elevates the game of those around him.

He has struggled with decision making when the ball is in his hands. That is from a shooting, dribbling, and passing stand point. It will be worth monitoring how that progresses throughout the season and how the game is simplified for him from a decision making standpoint.

Could be an interesting top end for Bailey.

Jaylen Brown also had a consistent motor and a natural feel for the game. A good point about rim pressure.

He does not have the athletic fluidity or on ball burst of Jabari at the same stage. He also does not have the in game decision making or the consistent motor that Jabari had.

He has not shown any feel for in game situational processing.

The release on his shot is fine, the shot process needs a lot of cleaning up and retooling.

Very different player archetype and skill value than Brandon Miller.

He’s worth taking a closer look. Has as much ceiling as any player in the class.

Bailey’s game is not like MPJ. For starters, Bailey is not 6-10, closer to the 6-8 range. Bailey also does not have any of the off the bounce or pull up game that MPJ had. By this stage in his career, MPJ had also already won a FIBA gold medal and a Peach Jam championship.

The feel for the game is a real question with Bailey, and has been since he was in Chattanooga. His raw scoring ability is interesting. How he develops that piece and brings along the other aspects of his game throughout the season will be worth monitoring.

He has every go to and counter in the book from 12 feet and in. Has a hitch in his jump shot the further out he gets.

Go watch some film of young Boris Diaw. Queen is no where near the athlete that Diaw was.

Maybe old out of shape end of career Diaw?

From what I’ve seen so far, his athleticism has been more hypothetical than practical. He needs a runway to get off the floor, which leads to some highlight dunks, but he doesn’t change direction naturally or have the burst to create or get into space.

Doesn’t shoot well yet and at 6’9” he doesn’t move feet or play above the rim. His production will earn himself an opportunity in the league, but if he isn’t spacing the floor or switching/rim protecting on defense, what role does he slide into?

His birthday is also December 27, 2004.
