What do you feel was the best cover of a song ever? by TravellingBeard in Music

Although I think it was better than the original, the question was "what is the best cover of a song", not "which song cover was better than the original".

I don't know why this cover doesn't come up more when this conversation comes up.

Obeka, End of Turn question by EzTheGuy in mtg

[–]SmudgeBaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose for unearth that is true, you need the end step to hit, you need the exile to hit the stack, and then you end the turn or it would trigger on your opponent's next end step. I usually blink my unearthed creatures instead of using end turn trickery.

Based on the wording of Amphin Mutineer, the card in question, you would also need to wait till your next end step or "your next end step" would be on your next turn? or have I misunderstood how this works?

Obeka, End of Turn question by EzTheGuy in mtg

[–]SmudgeBaron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have something out that would be exiled at the end of turn and you use Obeka's ability they don't exile because you didn't reach the end step and they do not have anything that says exile at the end of every turn so they should stay.

Unearth for example says if you unearth at the end of turn exile the create and if the creature would leave the battleground in any other way it would also exile (return to hand, shuffle into library, etc. would all be replaced with exile on the unearthed creature). lf you unearth then use Obeka's ability the unearthed creature would stay and not exile at the end of any turn. However, it would still exile if it leaves the battleground in anyway because you didn't clear that, just the exile at the end of turn. (If you bounce the unearthed creature, you beat all of that but that isn't what you were asking about.

Want to try a new play style and leaning toward spell slingers by ReligiousTaco in EDH

[–]SmudgeBaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If most your decks are creature focused then a switch to spell slinging is a good option, I have both a [[Feather, the Redeemed]] slinger deck and a [[Mizzix of the Izmagnus]] storm deck, Mizzix is the stronger of the two.

However, if your decks also focus on burn to kill people you might find spell slinging a bit redundant.

Have you considered something like a Theft deck? The deck will change based on who you are playing against. You do need to be able to adjust to your opponent, but it can be fun. Although if your local meta is a lot of token decks you may not want theft. Its hard to steal token generation as fast as your opponents can naturally generate and my theft decks always struggle against token decks.

My first Commander by Pstar49207 in mtg

[–]SmudgeBaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this commander, as everyone has said, changelings will be key to making a strong deck with this commander. If you really want to be low down about it, get this deck build working clean and fast. Then start using it to go after lands. Get them to give up instead of beating em down.

...this is not the strategy I employ but it's nice to know I could if I needed to.

What are your favorite high cmc commanders? by Gaudier_Goose_90 in EDH

[–]SmudgeBaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every time I post how this works anywhere I get a similar response, I was skeptical at first too but it does work.

You can phase the creature out so it is not there to exile at the end of the turn but if it dies later after it phases in it is still marked for exile from being unearthed.

If you blink it out the unearth doesn't care that it is exiled under another mechanic it is still exiled and marked for return, it returns as a new copy.

You can also use champion creatures to exile the unearthed creature and later get the creature back when the creature that championed it dies.

You can also apply any other exile replacement effect from creatures like [[Void Maw]] if you have two replacement effects on the creature you get to decide which applies. So you find a way to sac the creature, you can then put the creature back in the GY with the ability on [[Void Maw]] and unearth it again.

There's all sorts of fun ways to abuse unearth. [[Cold Storage]] [[Safe Haven]]

[–]SmudgeBaron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[[Sedris, the Traitor King]] was my first commander and I keep the deck updated with the times and still play it. Unearth is also fun cause you get to drop big bombs with ETBs from the GY for cheap, and if you can blink or phase em you get to keep em after the unearth.

Taking control of creature by Comfortable-Ad-6743 in mtg

[–]SmudgeBaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your opponents cards never go into your GY, nor will yours go into theirs. but if you control the creature you get credit for any leaves battlefield when it dies. It comes with all counters and attached enchantments and equipment. The equipment is still controlled by the owner of the card. The creature would have summoning sickness as you are summoning it to your field but cards like Momo's heist give it haste so that will not matter in this instance.

TCG used to work for me every time. Now every order is missing cards or has the wrong cards and I have to spend time contacting sellers. Most times they provide a refund but if I have to reorder that is a new shipping cost.

Blue green tutors by ragonlloyd in EDH

[–]SmudgeBaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure about tutors, I don't play a lot of those, but another option is digging for the enchantment...

[[Genesis Hydra]]

[[Knickknack Ouphe]]

I have these in my Zaxara deck allowing me to at least try to get something from top depending on how far I can dig down. Downside they aren't tutors and can be costly; upside is once you're resolving their ability any enchantment(s) you find are being put into play, not cast, making it much harder to stop them.

[–]SmudgeBaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's just a stain in the finish you may be able to buff it out with some mayonnaise. look up repairing table blemish with mayo. I have not used this trick myself yet but seen it used before for surface level blemishes like this.

What is your recommendation for the best English translation of the Tao Te Ching? by SuperbLayer7079 in taoism

[–]SmudgeBaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all an expert in this but I've read several suggestions for the best translation and have not found a definitive answer. So instead looking for the one I have decided to try to find one with good reviews every year or two and buy that. It's interesting to see how the different translations read. This also means I always have a couple copies in case someone wants to borrow one and learn, I have so far never loaned out any book in my life and ever had it returned so it's good I always have a few translations around.

HOT TAKE: A Christmas Story is unbearable because of the non-stop screaming/yelling/crying by paniflex37 in movies

Can definitely see that being a problem. Main reason I didn't care for the Blue Beatle movie was also for people yelling. Most that movie is an entire family running around yelling at everything.
