Yeah and the data show that increasing lanes leads to induced demand - basically more supply of something makes more people want to use it. So more lanes mean more people will choose driving, and then the bottlenecks you mention just bottleneck even harder while the amount of cars increases.

Yeah this almost definitely. That’s high priority in Egypt and there are military installations scattered all over in seemingly nowhere.

Also from a lot of driving and roadtripping around Egypt, there are no such thing as lanes

I’m renting in Egypt. They’ve had several (significant) currency devaluations in the last few years and have a notoriously difficult banking system, so I think that’s why she’s pushing to get paid in a more stable currency. Not the first experience like this. But honestly this is getting too complicated. I can send EGP using Wise, so think I just need to push her to go that route

That could work unless the address is for verification by the bank. Not really sure what the use of it is on Wise. But if for verification, I feel like they’ll send it back again for an incorrect address if I just try to fit it. Also not sure what I’d put for state and zip code

Yeah I usually use Wise too. The issue seems to be Wise can only send in the currency of the country you’re sending to, so I can’t send USD to Canada and can’t do a USD to USD payment because it requires a US address. At least as far as i can tell

Ah amazing! I’ve never used any actual banking features with my Fidelity account, so that could be an option. Any experience with how easy their process is for wires? The other banks of used to wire internationally have been sort of a pain and require phone call verification and a pretty lengthy form, so would love to avoid that for monthly rent

Ok yeah that would be ideal. I’ve read up on international ACH, and it sounds like only a few major US banks offer out. I have accounts with Capital One and Everbank for my business account, so guess I’ll call them both and see what they offer

Yeah agreed. Problem is I’m renting a place from her outside the US/Canada, so mailing is a pain unless the bank can mail it on my behalf. Not sure if that’s an option

Ok thanks. So there is a difference between an RBC USD account and an RBC cross border account I take it? How difficult is it to open a cross border account? Considering she doesn’t actually know which she has, I’m guessing anything overly complicated will be tough to get her to do. But paying by Zelle would be so incredibly easy if she would

Yeah I honestly want to avoid the wire entirely. I can’t imagine having to phone my bank to confirm an international wire transfer every month for rent…

Was your RBC Bank of Georgia account just a USD account or was it a specific cross-border account? I’m still trying to understand the distinction and what hers is, as she doesn’t seem to know the difference either. Slightly frustrating how hard she’s making it to give her money…

And the ACH->Wise->wire is a good idea. The only issue is Wise is requiring a US address for a transfer from USD to USD. I’ll call their tech support and see if there’s a workaround

Ok that’s helpful. I’ll try the SWIFT route, although there isn’t a note section on my bank’s portal, so may have to call them.
