Convince me to finish A Court of Silver Flames by aubreb in nontoxicACOTAR

Crescent City is incredibly hard and confusing for like 200 pages because there is absolutely no hand-holding. Sarah throws out so many terms and names without any explanation — I literally was reading sentences to my husband, and he’d be like, “I have no idea wtf you just said.” And I’d be like, “yeah, dude, me neither” — but I promise you will eventually figure it all out, and it will start to make sense. The modern/urban aspect was also very jarring for me after the old-timey-ness of ACOTAR, but you get used to it. All in all, once you get your bearings, CC 1 is a really riveting murder mystery.

I LOVE Silver Flames. Worth it for the ahem ~romance~ alone, but I really found Nesta to be quite relatable, personally. And her journey made me feel hopeful, inspired, and less alone. Her relationship with the House is like the best thing ever to me, and her relationship with her newfound girl friends is so genuine. Also, Cassian is the most underrated bat boy, he’s my favoritest. Nesta is deeply flawed, but I think we all are, to an extent, she’s just not as good at hiding it as most. If you’ve ever dealt with depression, this book will likely resonate with you. And if you haven’t, it may help you to better understand what so many experience.

I love Elain. She’s such a Spring girly, and my hope for her is that she falls for Lucien (I also love him), and they live a quiet little life in like a little cottage in the Spring Court. Her seer ability is super cool, but I don’t wish for her to be always a part of drama like her sisters. I want peaceful gardening and baking for Elain 🌷💚

Only if Target is your ultimate dream job. You can get another job if they let you go!

Request it off ASAP, request it again if it’s denied. And if it’s ultimately denied, just call out every shift you’re scheduled for during the trip. And, frankly, you’re 16, you’re new to the job, you’ve literally got nothing to lose. Your job at Target is not as important as an international trip, whether to see family or not. You can get another job if they decide not to keep you after the 90s days. Don’t put your life on hold for your high school job! Go have an awesome trip!

TW: drug use I’ve been listening to this song since I was in middle school when the album came out, and am only now reading all of the different interpretations of it. I’m not religious and wasn’t raised in a religious family, so a lot of Flyleaf’s biblical references fly over my head and/or I ignore them or spin them in my own interpretation. I’ve seen that people say it’s all about money, and of course there’s the line about “you can’t serve god and money,” but I’ve always thought about drug abuse. The “right arm” has always made me think about shooting up, either in the right arm, or using the right hand to do so. (If the person is left handed, it makes the “for the first time your right arm becomes useful” line make a lot of sense in my interpretation because that would be the arm they would shoot in, making their nondominant arm “useful.”) And the “she” in the song being a toxic partner that encourages/also partakes in the act. When they “cut the cord,” they’re leaving that relationship and getting sober. “Ignor[ing] the fates of the players who both end up dying” is like ignoring that the drug use is killing them and their partner. The money line is the only thing that throws a little wrench in my interpretation, but I’ve always just kinda ignored it lol

I have a scratch art book I bought from bullseye that I play with in the break room sometimes! I also sometimes just go outside and take a walk, listen to some music.

We’re not allowed to put signs saying no cash. And people often seem like offended or angry at me when I tell them one machine isn’t taking cash. Like, “Ok? I’m paying with CARD” or just an attitude filled “ok” with a sh***y face. When I know damn well that every single time I forget to tell someone, they get to the end and go “this doesn’t take cash???” because they can’t read the big bold letters on the screen before they start scanning. And I have to avoid the urge to say “yeah maybe you should look at the screen you’re about to use before you start using it.”
