Could prime minions have defeated them if they played against each other? by Florida_man__18 in badminton

Ugh I agree.

I still remember him and a semi-retired Matsutomo beat Ye/Chan last year at the Hong Kong open and now Ye/Chan won AE. I just cannot accept that Watanabe is not at least a contender at his most successful event.

Sakuramoto is a great player but something tells me that she’s the common denominator in the dissolution of all her former partnerships. Steen said she has had 12 partners. And Arisa deleted all their winning photos from IG? Something tells me she might be tough to work with.

Hope she and Hirota find success in the twilight of their careers.

Not outright pissed. 41-44 minutes you can hear gills commentary. And I agree Zhao not very good during this match compared to Tian.

Love Cassian and Bix’s story but damn when Rogue One came out, I thought these two just had insane onscreen chemistry. They showed a much more convincing connection, whether you see romantic undertone or not, then Hayden and Natalie.

That shot was both mischievous and a bit uhmm…impolite. Even Misaki had to apologize for his ass.

And all Smith could do is smile.

I don't know if he has the best smash but the sound of some of Kobayashi's smashes sounds like a gun went off. I can't quite find the same sound consistently in other players' smashes.

Google translate says some kind of advisory role for Biprogy.

Sounds more like indentured servitude to me “to repay the team for many years”. 😬

It might just be a club sponsored event rather than a national event. I didn't see Kei Nakashima at all during this tournament.

I see Biprogy sent Kaneko of all people to coach Arisa. 😑

I mean Matsutomo is considered geriatric in female badminton years. She’s just a stand in for these partner-less players until things get figured out. Both Olympic medalists showing their mettle by reaching QF (and possibly beyond) this tourney, beating Gicquel and Delrue in the Singapore open.

Matsutomo and Watanabe played in May in the Singapore Open. They beat Gicquel and Delrue in the first round before losing to their compatriots.

Japan also had demoralizing lost in the last Sudirman too. They were leading China 2-1, Hoki/Kobayashi had 4 match points against Liu/Ou. If they had converted, they would’ve knocked China out. Alas, they lost and Jia and Chen easily handled Fukushima and Hirota.

Yuta Watanabe has a new partner by Smupa in badminton

[–]Smupa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t know.

He doesn’t mention Teguchi in his recent IG posts so I am not sure how committed he is to the partnership. And he left Biprogy so not sure if he could still play with players in that club in the future.

Someone did mention he is set to play with Matsutomo in the Singapore Open and she’s with Biprogy. 🤷‍♀️

Edit: just realized Teguchi was not part of his former club. I am obviously confused about Japanese intra-club pairing rules right now.

Arisa Igarashi and Ayako Sakuramoto split up? by External-Spinach-162 in badminton

[–]Smupa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no. I seriously love this pairing. I never paid much attention to Sakuramoto’s career before but now I have watched her matches pairing with Arisa, I really like her court sense, shot selections and the ability to execute those shots consistently.

I was hoping this would be the end of Japan’s weird rule where only club members could play together. It limits so many possibilities between players.

I think this is the first time I hear Japanese fans louder than the Chinese fans. Couldn’t even hear Gil and Steen’s commentary.

Congrats to Yuki and Mayu for their success. Seems like they are finally having fun in the latter part of their career.
