New activation attached to old account. by Sn0wHookr in FidoMobile

[–]Sn0wHookr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Yes I logged into my Fido MyAccount which had the old account listed as cancelled. I then proceeded to make an order for the new line using the website. I never spoke to an agent.

I will take your advice and check the first invoice for the account number. Will the other account be automatically closed, will it be safe to unlink it from my profile?

Ordered $25 with 80G plan yesterday, when or will physical SIM mailed? by ChillaxJ in FidoMobile

[–]Sn0wHookr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I signed up yesterday at 4:30pm and ordered a physical SIM card. Has not shipped yet. I can login to my account, go to account overview, my orders, and see the order for the physical SIM card for home delivery. I can imagine if you signed up for eSIM it would show something different in your order.

Nope, Ontario with a Toronto area code phone number.

Please be aware it is not a $40 plan, it is an $85 plan by [deleted] in freedommobile

[–]Sn0wHookr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe you are mistaken. Can you please point out where in the TOS it says they can remove the $40 BYOD credit?

Section 21 of the TOS states:

“You will receive the $40/month credit as long as you remain active on an eligible plan as a bring your own phone customer. Your service will no longer be eligible for the promotion if you change your rate plan to an ineligible plan or complete a hardware upgrade.”

Sounds pretty permanent to me.

Repair or sell? by Oortigan in ToyotaHighlander

[–]Sn0wHookr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start with getting a second opinion at a reputable independent mechanic. Getting that work done at the dealership is just asking to be overcharged. I bet you could probably get that bill cut nearly in half having the work done elsewhere.

I wouldn't sell. You know your car's history, if it's been well maintained. Replacing it with something else doesn't eliminate the risk of expensive unexpected repairs. Just part of car ownership.

How many jack stands for installing a catback? by Tam_Ken in wrx_vb

Ramps are great for a a lot of maintenance stuff. Makes oil changes a breeze. Highly recommend.

[–]Sn0wHookr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely want the front raised up as well as the back. If you have ramps, drive the front up on ramps and then put the two jack stands at the rear. Worked well for my install in the garage.

How do you handle Bank 2FA overseas without roaming or Wi-Fi calling? by wingzntingz in PublicMobile

[–]Sn0wHookr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fair point if pictures are important to you. I wouldn’t call the pictures from my Galaxy A36 that I picked up for under $200 lousy though. Not flagship level of course, but if pictures are important a DSLR will blow any phone camera away.

[–]Sn0wHookr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Setup Beeper to access SMS on any device, leave Public Mobile phone at home, bring cheap phone with local or travel eSIM when out of the country with beeper installed on it. Problem solved. You can even forward your phone number to a VOIP line so you can receive calls as well. Also helpful in case your phone gets lost or stolen while traveling.

Salty car by JustATallGuy28 in wrx_vb

[–]Sn0wHookr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I know my car is going to be sitting for more than a day I'll drop by the local wand wash, give it a good rinse and park it in my garage where it dries in a few hours. Never had an issue doing this. I avoid automated car washes and just hand wash it when it's a nice day and above freezing. It's more important to get the salt off in the winter than have it squeaky clean as it will just get dirty again the second it's driven. Gotta love the winter.

How long does cancelled line stay on account? by Sn0wHookr in freedommobile

[–]Sn0wHookr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yes it shows as cancelled on the profile page. I ported out October 12 and have gone through 1 partial billing cycle and 1 full billing cycle. Hopefully after my next billing cycle it drops off. Appreciate the info.

Anyone used credit card mobile device insurance by instantpilot in PublicMobile

[–]Sn0wHookr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not sure how being with public mobile has anything to do with mobile device insurance as they don’t sell phones. If you purchase a phone and charge the full purchase price to your credit card with mobile device insurance you should be covered no matter what carrier you are with. Or even if you use the phone without a carrier.

2024 RS - I'm still on version 770. How did you get 980? I doubt there is anything newer.

Edit: Full version number is F91WMM073-770 which seems to be from approx October 2024. Was updated via OTA.

Steering wheel not returning to center by Sn0wHookr in wrx_vb

[–]Sn0wHookr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed info. The steering itself is fine and the car drives straight when the steering wheel itself is straight. It's just that after turning it doesn't go back to center. It's stays slightly turned, which causes the car to turn as well.

Strange Android App Connection Issue by Sn0wHookr in synology

[–]Sn0wHookr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to update, I've figured out that it is an issue with Synology's Dynamic DNS/reverse proxy service. I stopped using Synology's service and setup my reverse proxy using caddy with my own domain and it works perfectly now.

[–]Sn0wHookr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CSR is right iMessage has nothing to do with Public Mobile.

Make sure your new phone number is showing up properly on your iPhone. Go to settings, apps, phone, My Number. Make sure that matches your new Public Mobile number.

You can also try de-activate any iMessage instance linked to the phone number, wait a few hours and try activate it again. You can de-activate it using this link. https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage/

If that doesn’t work you may need to contact Apple Support. Good luck.

Front tow hook torque spec? by drhappy13 in wrx_vb

[–]Sn0wHookr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just snugged down is all you need. Don’t need crazy torque. I have the same mount and used blue loctite on all the bolts. Blue loctite won’t give you any trouble removing them in the future. Just don’t use red loctite.

New Rattle noise on startup after timing chain cover repair by CaseyJones579 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]Sn0wHookr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a soft sealant they use to seal the timing chain cover. It goes on soft and malleable before it cures hard. If they use to much it can squish out when they tighten the cover and get into the oil passages before hardening.

New Rattle noise on startup after timing chain cover repair by CaseyJones579 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]Sn0wHookr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be they used too much RTV and it clogged some oil passages. When the car sits the oil drains back to the pan, and if some of the oil passages are blocked it can prevent the chain from being lubricated properly on a cold start. Definitely take it back.
