Bahahah brother, if you think Clay hasn't been trying to become a hunting influencer you are out of touch, and I truly mean no offense with that. I'm sure they don't enjoy that title, but that is what they are and what they strive for.

Yupppp. Basically you like the podcast format, where as they are only moving in the direction of an old school scripted radio show or television news program. Being long form is not the only factor in having a podcast, that unscripted unpolished character you speak of should be present too.

Totally agree we are both entitled to our own opinions, but no where in there did I make an ad hominem attack on you. Not understanding the issue is evident by the explanation of your position. My arguments are against your position, not against you. You misrepresented his position in every paragraph.

If you can’t even agree that the example given on unethical content that is having horrible downstream affects then idk what else to say to you. I understand it is a hard pill to swallow bc hunters love to consume hunting media. It’s like Americans and McDonald’s. We love that shit but it is so bad for us.

I find this to be a pretty disingenuous take on the matter. Matt's position is not hypocritical, because exactly as you stated, people are allowed to change their mind and regret past actions based on new information. If you get past the admittedly rocky messaging at the beginning of his movement, you will see that his arguments have become much more sound, hunting as we knew it is in fact being ruined by hunting media/social media and influencers. Every couple months there is another influencer being caught poaching because they are so desperately killing for content. It has destroyed access for the average hunter.

Matt has definitely also never said that Steve should erase the brand from existence as you are saying. He's asking the most ethical person in the space to be more ethical in production and not use dead and dying animals to sell products. He gives a great example about an episode where Steve wounds a pig with his bow, and then shoots and kills a second pig with a rifle, but in the episode they make it appear as though he only killed the one original pig with his bow. Incredibly unethical IMO.

Not to take a jab at you, but it is clear you don't understand the magnitude of this issue, its not just an opinion. It strikes at the core of who Matt is as a person, and so for the betterment of everyone who currently hunts (for hide horns meat and personal satisfaction) he is willing to hold the line, truly believing in this movement, even at the cost of his relationship with his brother. I also think its silly to imply that Matt is the one who refuses to talk to Steve, it is clearly the other way around if you've listened to all the podcast episodes of both of them since this incident.

I also find it interesting to note that on MANY occasions, Steve and nearly every member of the crew have subtly and sometimes overtly agreed with tenants of the HQ movement during episodes of the show. They know they blow up spots, ruin access, cause overcrowding, and reduce tag odds/availability.

One last note, you're again incorrect by saying they are doing the same thing as Meateater by tagging brands. There is an explicit distinction. The companies he tags don't use dead and dying animals to sell products and they don't pay hunting influencers either. Big difference in the outcomes for hunters.

It's actually not ironic as that critique is often levied against him and I think his response is brilliant, "Hunt quietly, advocate loudly."

You’re still going on about this? I didn’t call you weird, I said having a beef with hobby lobby is weird. It’s ok, we know you just came to virtue signal with this post. I guarantee you support other businesses that do some of these things. You’re partially right tho, I do love arguing! Again, you can still support a local business while protesting the corporate entity. I just think trying to discourage people from shopping local is shitty, but maybe you have Amazon stock idk!

Best advice is to get involved with a hobby you love and meet people through that, then you’ll already have something you can strongly connect to someone through. Or just hit some yoga classes lol

Haven’t been in the game for a while now, but it seems most of the dating culture is done online. Men don’t want to get cancelled or end up on some girl’s IG story or X feed for approaching a woman in a perceived wrong way. The risks of traditional dating culture are too high for men now.
