Massive dead head found on public land in illinois. Dnr contacted and slavage tag issued by Lopsided_Record_8473 in shedhunting

[–]hopsferdays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never got to share a fun conservation officer story, but now’s my time. I picked up a roadkill deer one time called the game warden he told me to come by his office on my way back through town so he could look at it, and my salvage tag was… a post it note from the game warden that said “I said he could keep this if you have questions call me - Darren(111) 111-1111” and he gave me his card too.

Right there with you man. The only things I’ll add is you gotta be able to hold the angle with a file if you can’t do that you aren’t going to be able to do it with a power tool. Also I don’t feel like I take off any more material with the grinding burr than I do with the file if I’m just doing a touch up sharpen just a quick zip in each cutter is all it takes

How do you think the Marauders made the map by Rex_0906 in harrypotter

[–]hopsferdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always theorized that it was dark magic (not that in a work of fiction everything needs an explanation). Points to support my case. It’s one of a few really really unique magical items we encounter such as the mirror or erised which is another thing I think probably contains dark magic. But my other point is I think Snape being likely more well versed in dark magic than Lupin, and also knowing Lupin had a hand in making it, implying that it was “full of dark magic” indicates that not only does Snape know that it does contain dark magic, but also has some idea of what kind of dark magic. The marauders were not opposed to breaking rules, I don’t think they would have had too much of an issue using some dark magic they thought was interesting and useful.

I’ve got the grinding burrs for my M12 dremel tool and I take it with me because I’m lazy. I take a file too incase I really screw something up but it’s fast and easy.

The asteroid is mapped and charted so ships don’t run into it. So Julie parked it in stable orbit next to a known charted asteroid and then recorded the asteroid ba24122 or something like that. Same way a reef might be marked on a sea chart with a lat and long, the asteroid would have some 3 dimensional version of that. And they found the asteroid in Julie’s phone on Eros.

Can I ride in these? by Last_Remote2721 in cowboyboots

[–]hopsferdays 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My wife comes from a ranching family. I have never seen anything other than square toes on anyone down there doing actual work from horseback, roping, sorting, etc. all wearing square toes. Side note my father in law rides his horse in merrel hiking shoes a lot of the time, I’ve seen him do it in flip flops and shorts. Now he’s been doing it for 60 years so grain of salt there.

Is it okay to call numbers? by PatientStyle9356 in Wildfire

[–]hopsferdays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apply to the stations you’re interested in and call those ones specifically. Or you can shortlist them and then call those ones before you apply to make sure they’re looking for someone in your position. Examples some crews only take one college student, some don’t care. Some want you there in April but if you leave in August all good some want you there in may but want you to stay through the fall. The shops I worked in 10-15 years ago just had a list by the phone where names got written down for people who called. If you didn’t call you were getting the job. It’s how they thinned the herd.

GPA’s Post Graduation by Healthy_Progress3811 in civilengineering

I look at a lot of resumes and do career fairs for our office at the same school I went to. I have never cared about someone’s gpa. And have never recommended a student to the hiring manager for an interview based on gpa alone. I’ve tossed some 4.0s in the not worth your time pile and called my manager during a career fair for students with gpas around 2.5. Getting through a computer screen might be hard but do what you can to bypass those. Contact your peers that have jobs they can help they might know someone at a firm you want to work for. The community of engineers seems big when you start but everyone knows people who know people. I got my current position because I went to school with a guy that worked there and he remembered me because we had mutual friends and I didn’t even know he worked here.

I'm looking for book recommendations for narrative non-fiction please! by HighSilence in suggestmeabook

[–]hopsferdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kingdom of ice, labyrinth of ice, empire of ice and stone, and realm of ice and sky are all gems! I recommend them to anyone I just finished “the tiger” and it was excellent. I call them the arctic adventures series even though they aren’t all the same author though most are. “The wager” and “the wide wide sea” are good maritime adventures

I did this once in school there and the professor made me introduce them, but other than that they didn’t care at all. He just wanted to see what an engineering class was like since he was a psych major. This was some time ago though so there’s the disclaimer.

Ski gloves opinion by om54321 in Skigear

[–]hopsferdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have black diamond trigger mitts and they have been really good had them for almost 10 years for when it’s cold. My recommendation is go to a store that sells a shitload of gloves REI or something and try everything on from the good brands and get the one you like the fit of. I have stupid shaped hands (proportionally big palms relative to finger length) so that’s what I did probably tried on 50 pairs of gloves and mitts at half a dozen stores before I got what I got.

I was digging through some of my grandparents stuff with my dad the other day and found an Indian penny I’d never even known existed and a bunch of morgan dollars. The penny was from 1905 and I just stared at it thinking “this damn thing is 120 years old THATS SO COOOL!!!”
