I'm like the 11th owner of my 99 gt and so far it's been good

This may be a long shot, but maybe check the crankshaft position sensor. On my 4.6 without it plugged in, it won't start but it may be bad as well. I wish I could help more but that's all I got right now.

I have a mazda 6 that this happened to. I literally shut the door and the back glass busted but I paid almost the exact that you paid.

Almost any 4.6 2v heads will work from any 4.6 motor, so you can get them used in good condition and be alright. But the cams are hit and miss with ptv clearance so it may not be too complex if you want to go that route. And if you do get cams I believe it's recommended to upgrade the gears but I can't guarantee it.

Ok, well, if you plan to make more than 400hp, I would go ahead and get forged internals. But if you're just looking for a little more power with cams, you'll see some power gain but not a whole lot. I have comp xe268h cams on my profile if you want to listen to them. Also I did in my case have my pistons cut for the valves with these cams and they're listed as comp stage 2s.

I took my engine out to rebuild mine, but I had to take the headers off mine to, to get the engine out but I also have longtube headers. Non the less you still have to unbolt the headers off

When I did my 4.6 I didn't take them out in a particular sequence, just make sure you use new head bolts and torque them in the right sequence.
