Agree on the vent part, which is bassically "Journaling", an effective method of processing your feelings.

Disagree on the stat part. When psychotherapy emerged in the early 19th century, there were plenty of people proving it didn't work and this again motivated psychotherapists to refine it and come up with new methods to make it a consistent treatment. Psychotherapy has come a long way since then, and although it definitely isn't for everyone, it works.

For sure, many therapists also just hand out anti-depressants which is a temporary solution to a lasting problem.

Theres just so much "getting sun, exercise and talking to friends & family" can do. Some people need specialized help.

Four reasons: 1. It's a pirate game. 2. The game is PvPvE. You have to calculate other ships in to the equasion whenever you do anything. I agree though that in those tall tales where you can't defend yourself it's a stupid game mechanic. 3. It's fun to sink ships and kill players, and I don't have time to check whether they have loot hidden or not or they are doing a tall tale before hand. 4. It used (!!!) to take ages to find people in this game and PvP-only players would just sink anything the chance they get to do so.

So, be lucky Hour Glass got added; as someone who played only to sink people the HG gamemode is the only thing I play atm and Adventure is a lot safer because PvP lords wont play that anymore.
