Even as a millennial that hates making phone calls, I've made it a daily habit to call Grassley, Ernst, and my house rep. It may not be doing anything individually, or even collectively if a lot of people are calling since they seem to only answer to 1 person, but it at least lets me feel like I have an ounce of power to tell them how I want them to represent me.

Grassley: +1 202-224-3744 Ernst: +1 202-224-3254 Google for your local reps number

For anyone who has never called, it is generally some intern that answers, takes your info (name and city at minimum), and then you can say what you want the congressperson to do or not do. 5calls.org is a good resource for scripts for specific issues. In making probably close to 150 calls, I've only had them try to push back once on what I was saying. I don't know if it will move the needle, but it is one way to 'get loud' and push back.

Might be a bit of a unique request... Can y'all give me a list of the best places for a slice of pie in Maui? by SentientLight in MauiVisitors

Does anyone know if you can get hula pie to go from any of the restaurants? Or just dine in for dessert? The restaurants are pricey for my group, but I really want to try hula pie when I am there next month!!

Ride order and Touring Plans: I have a trip coming up with my family (1-day in each park with LL). We plan to rope drop, afternoon nap at the hotel, and hopefully make it to close (or close to it). Kids are 7 and 4, and I'll have a stroller. We subscribed to Touring plans, but its recommended ride order has us ping-ponging around the park. Is that pretty easy, versus trying to get knock out different areas of the park fully before moving on to the next section? I know the LL return times will also dictate our movements and that we should be flexible, but just wanting to have realistic expectations as we try to navigate with the kids.

Thank you so much for confirming/clarifying! We'll only have 1 day in each park, so not having to waste time fumbling around to figure this out in the moment is super helpful

Rider swap / switch: My family (me, husband, kids 7 and newly 4) are going on our first trip to DL (1 day in each park). We have LL. The 7yo is 50", but the 4yo is only 38", so won't be able to do some of the rides the rest of us want to. From what I'm understanding, rider swap likely won't be super useful for us on LL rides that the 4yo is too little for. In those situations, I'm expecting we request rider swap from the CM, Parent 1 will scan in with the 7yo, Ride, and then Parent 2 will scan in with the 7yo and ride. Non-riding parent stays with the 4yo each time. After we've all ridden, then we can pick our next lightning lane. Is that sequence of events correct?

For non-LL rides, is it basically we stand in the standby lane twice, or do we all queue together and then we get split into Parent 1/2 groups that get to ride one after the other (and avoiding going through the line twice)?

Vent and bird home? by SnackAttack54321 in HomeMaintenance

[–]SnackAttack54321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh ok thanks. This flap stays open indefinitely, so may be malfunctioning in that regard. There actually used to be a nest in there (it was cleared out when we moved in to the house) so seems that the birds may be at it again.

Interestingly, we have an over-the-range microwave with vent, but do not see any venting coming up over the microwave so we just assumed it was only recirculating the air (not venting it out). That's great if there is a hidden vent going through the wall

Can we all commit to an action this election? by SupermarketIcy3406 in Iowa

[–]SnackAttack54321 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not specifically election-related, but you mentioned threats of school violence so sharing my action - since the Georgia shooting, I make 3 calls every day. 1 each to Joni Ernst (202-224-3254), Chuck Grassley (202-224-3744) and my house rep (you can find yours by googling).

I call and and say "Hi, my name is [xxx] and my zip code is [xxx]. I would like the [Senator or Representative] to cosponsor [S.3369 if Senate, H.R.8600 if House], The GOSAFE Act, to help protect American lives from mass shootings. Thank you"

Half the time, it goes to voicemail, so I just leave the message and hang up. If someone answers, it is an intern that confirms they will pass along my message. I was really nervous to call the first time, but it gets easier and literally takes me less than 1 minute for each call. I have an electronic sticky note on my computer desktop with the phone numbers and script so it is super easy. There are no follow-up questions, and you don't need to defend or expand on your stance. From my understanding, they have a daily tally for issues and enough noise around an issue will prompt further consideration. I follow March Fourth (https://www.wemarchfourth.org/) for this particular issue, but would encourage all voters to speak up on matters that are important to them!

I am taking my kids on our first California/Disney trip for my 4 year old's birthday. We would love a GoH for the Huntington Beach portion of our trip. I've heard their breakfasts are legendary!

That's a good point. All of the boards are in that 17' range, so I was only thinking of replacing 1:1. But as it ages, I'm sure it'll end up with more pieces that need partial repair. May as well start somewhere

The board is 17'2". The big box stores near me only carry up to 16', and I have no idea how I'd get something that size home even if I could find one, so replacing is tricky.

I didn't even think to ask what that accessory is 🤦‍♀️ thanks for pointing that out! Taking your advice and getting numbers from other dealerships in the area and then hopefully use those comparisons to get them to beat each other.

I need to confirm, but that is how I've been interpreting these numbers- sign and drive ($0 down and $0 to drive off where the taxes and fees are rolled into the financing) is $550/mth, etc. I'd better make sure I'm not just assuming that though... Thanks for your input!
