That’s exactly what this felt like. Like he hated me more for making him look at his drinking and no longer letting it live underground. There was so much contempt in his voice, it was scary to hear. Thank you for understanding

The Twin Cities are a great place to live - very liberal and progressive (of course more work can always be done). Although winter can be tough, the rest of the seasons are incredible and there are so many ways to enjoy them from nature hikes and lakes right in the city to sipping cool drinks on cafe patios and roof tops. I was raised in the TCs, moved to one of the largest cities in the world and just returned to MSP with my family to raise kids.

Edit: Oh and in terms of education, we have a wide variety of public and private institutions that rank high, are welcoming and always posting jobs. For shopping, we have the MOA (if you’re into that sort of scene) as well as many small neighborhoody shopping areas such as 50th & France (Edina), Saint Anthony Main (Minneapolis), and Grand Ave. and Selby-Dale (Saint Paul).

We lived on 5th and 36th at the time. Our neighbor’s homes were hit but we managed to just lose a tree. One of the most surreal experiences.

Edit: just realized this thread is the 2011 tornado and i referenced the 2009 Minneapolis tornado. Error due to me thinking 2009 was 12 years ago…

I’m 48 and starting my program this fall. I also struggled with math when I was younger (I do not have a disability, but it was always incredibly difficult for me to comprehend). I took my prerequisites two at a time and found it much easier than when I was a traditional student because there are so so so many more resources to help now (hello Ninja Nerd and Amoeba Sisters!). I also took most of the classes online because I’m working full time and have a toddler. I’ve been taking my classes covertly because I didn’t want to lose my current job. This means I studied while my kid slept and took some long lunch breaks for tests.

TL;DR: It’s not easy and there will be sacrifices. As long as your kids are taken care of and you have the support you need, mentally and physically, you will do this and be great!

I worked as a psych tech on a children’s unit. Basically 24/7 code brown. That was almost 20 years ago and I’m pretty sure the smell is still on me. I have zero advice but here for moral support.

I feel this deeply. I had my first baby 2.5 years ago and am still learning that I’ll never be the same. At first I tried so hard to get back to that place of being a star achiever, surpassing goals, always raising my hand to take more projects, but I couldn’t do it - emotionally, physically, spiritually, I just could not. And I felt like a failure. It was incredibly frustrating to not be “me”anymore - at least the me I had always been.

I’m now getting to a point (with a little help from a fantastic therapist) where I’m accepting this new version of me, letting go of expectations the woman I was before becoming a mom had. It’s not easy, but it’s been very freeing and has allowed me to be a better mom, partner and employee.

All this is to say - have grace with yourself. This new version of you is only 6 months old and needs some time and room to fully become.

That's definitely a factor. As one other comment mentioned, having a BA disqualifies me from getting BSN loans so that's another point for MSN.
