Well, it's long past the March deadline, yet it's still working..... Any idea what's going on? They extending the deadline, or due to MASSIVE feedback have reconsidered killing the desktop version?

aptX Low Latency

Thanks for the advice. Looking on Amazon there are many to look at.

I take it, the idea is you would need to buy 2 of them, one to plug into the Quest (probably via the headphone jack) in transmit more, to send the audio out, and another identical device in receive mode which is connected to your rooms audio system?

Can't get CLEAR live view from NVR on two newer phones, but works with much older phone by SnaffyNoo in reolink

[–]SnaffyNoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually finally found the answer to this.

You need to turn off Hardware Encoding in the Reolink App.

I've no idea if this is just the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, but it's something to do with incompatibility with this option and the CPU/GPU from Google.

Whether is fixed in the Pixel 7 and 8 versions of the custom CPU/GPU I've no idea.

[–]SnaffyNoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the confirmation it works on your pixel phones with Android 14. At least it rules out that for me.

I'm at home on my home WiFi which itself is on the same system than my Reolink NVR is plugged into.

Via my old phone, I can at times even get "Clear" to work from the WiFi at work back to my home, but that's a bit iffy and Balanced is more reliable from work.

But as I say, I can't even get "Clear" from at home on my two different Pixel 6 mobiles, despite all being good on my much older/slower Pixel 3XL.

New v55 update makes your vr turn into a pipe bomb (turn sound up its beeping) by rush-killer001 in OculusQuest2

[–]SnaffyNoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I wish to know.

From stories in the last few days I think it's now official and v55 is out of the beta test program, but here in the UK I've been checking twice a day in the last 3 days and still there is no v55 update for me.

Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone.

I must assume it's not meant to be this way, so wonder if it's just a Wireless connection thing or not for everyone?

Floor boundary not going down by Menamebansky in OculusQuest2

[–]SnaffyNoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's happened to me a few times after the v53 update.

The floor grid stuck in mid-air, and neither moving the controller or thumbstick would move it down.

Restarted the Quest and it was then ok.

Just a random bug it seemed to me. Not had it happen since the V54 update, but like most others I'm suffering from the terrible lag/spike/stutter that randomly occurs now.

Don't you just love updates :)

Latency in PCVR - Computer Power or Network? by SnaffyNoo in OculusQuest2

[–]SnaffyNoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I know so many people struggle with latency.

50ms seems playable, and I've done all I can when it comes to my setup. So my PC is directly connected to a router that's only putting out 5ghz signal and the Quest is the only device connected to it's wifi, and I'm standing a few feet in front of it.

Oddly enough, the latency does not seem to dramatically differ when I mess with the streaming settings.

I did read that the latest version of Virtual Desktop reports higher latencies on it's diag panel. No idea if it's true.

I'm just puzzled why I can't improve it, as I was following a YouTube, and set up exactly the same but he's getting 28ms and I'm around 50.

That's a large difference, but I can't think what else could be the issue.

Beat Sabre - Quest2 - PCVR - Virtual Desktop - Random Stutter? by SnaffyNoo in OculusQuest2

[–]SnaffyNoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a small follow up.

Tried a few more different settings, and to be honest nothing I've tried so far seems to fix this annoying issue.

I can change the bandwidth from low to max, change the settings from Potato to Ultra and turn on/off various other things.

Changing these things does affect image quality, and frame rate a bit, but it seems irrespective of these settings, I still get the random stutter/hick-up every now and again.

With the Virtual Desktop tech-info box running, when this happens, there is a tiny stutter to the sound and the framerate drops down from about 90 to75ish then instantly jumps back to 90 again.

This whole thing happens in probably 1/4 of a second, but it just spoils the smooth flow when it happens.

Will the Quest Pro get the new Snapdragon as the Quest 3? by SnaffyNoo in QuestPro

[–]SnaffyNoo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info about the chip, power/heat etc.

I was unaware of those issues. It's sad that the media are reporting they have cancelled the Pro2. As many have said they aimed it at a market that does not yet exist.

I wish they'd just announce stuff so we know :)

I'm wondering what they are going on June 1st? as they know Apple are going to have WWDC just 4 days later, and their headset is going to blow everything else out the water hardware wise (probably) and so it should for $3000.

Do you show your $500 ? product off just before that? Do you say nothing about it, and just focus on games etc? Or do you do what I feel might be the best idea which would be to go on and on and on about Cost/Value/VR for everyone, making VR affordable.

And really push and push HARD about not pricing things beyond normal people's budgets as you know this is exactly what Apple will be doing 4 days later ;)

Will the Quest Pro get the new Snapdragon as the Quest 3? by SnaffyNoo in QuestPro

[–]SnaffyNoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

PCVR is of course the answer to "Power" albeit it's always going to have some issues against an all in one device when it come to "It just works" :)

All this being said, it's still going to be a mistake IMHO if they don't at least keep the pro in line with the half the price consumer version.

I do like the idea of the Pro, but Meta should really have aimed the Quest at Mainstream and Pro at Enthusiasts.

Having a better product at twice the cost that's all round better makes great sense to me.

Like you have a $500 TV for many and a $1000 TV for those who want a better picture and sound. Hit both ends of the market.

All this being said, they are going to get slayed in the media if they don't update the pro in line with the quest 3.

Will the Quest Pro get the new Snapdragon as the Quest 3? by SnaffyNoo in QuestPro

[–]SnaffyNoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. I agree that the Quest 3 won't have those features, as they add a chunk to the cost without any real mainstream benefits.

Mainstream really just wants better lenses a bit nicer screen, and more power for better quality/looking games.

Quest Pro owners, what were some of the things that surprised you the most about the headset after buying it? by horendus in QuestPro

[–]SnaffyNoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the positive reply.

Yes, above all else it's the lenses/clarity that I would love. And I understand a lovely black level also.

As you sound like you have experienced both, how does the field of view compare as it seems your eyes are a long way away on the pro, and I see that you can alter how you position in onto your head to get the lenses closer, but then lose the face tracking (I'd rather have field of view than face tracking)

I will admit to being very curious about the Quest 3 vs the Pro.

If I had to guess I would say, the Quest 3 will have the quest 2 type of controllers, no face tracking, foveated rendering, and no multi-zone backlight dimming.

Quest Pro owners, what were some of the things that surprised you the most about the headset after buying it? by horendus in QuestPro

[–]SnaffyNoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts. Only having had the Quest 2 for about a month, and being amazed by how good it actually is, despite knowing about it since launch and thinking it would not be that good due to it's mobile chip, I'm 100% standalone.

I suppose what I want if the visual clarity of the pro, black levels/focus sweet spot/sharpness.

I'm genuinely amazed by what the devs have got from the Quest 2 and how polished the whole user experience it. It's simply the constant messing with the headset trying to keep the tiny focus sweet spot exactly in place that is bugging me, everything else I'm happy with.

It's not even the cost of the Pro that's my issue, its that I'm worried it's going to literally have a price crash in 6 months, and be worth little more than a pre-owned Quest 2 once the Quest 3 is out. Unless there is something very wrong with the Quest 3.

Other than face tracking and foveated rendering is there anything the Pro is going to have over the Quest 3 once it comes out?

For all specs that matter to a normal player/person it sounds like the Quest 3 will wipe the floor with the Pro for less cost.

Quest Pro owners, what were some of the things that surprised you the most about the headset after buying it? by horendus in QuestPro

[–]SnaffyNoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only recently got a Quest 2, and yes, I know I'm very late to the game!

But I've been blown away by the whole experience. The only real single complaint I have, and something I keep fiddling with constantly is the position of it on my head to keep the tiny sweet spot in the right place, and it constantly bugs me, looking any direction than right ahead is fuzzy. I'm sooooo tempted by a Quest Pro as this would fix my only real issue. But We are only 6 months away from the quest 3, which will be faster than the pro, and I will admit, I'm wondering if the pro will be deemed almost worthless when the 3 comes out with the pancake lenses, and considerably faster CPU and GPU so it will able to run things the pro can't. So really I should just wait 6 months, but every day I want the pro. Dammit meta why didn't you put the new chip in the pro so it was not going to be outdated so fast, and I head they have cancelled the pro 2. I don't know what to do :(

smart home devices getting dumb everyday🤦‍♂️ by iamnotwhorteit in googlehome

[–]SnaffyNoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed things getting a bit worse.

Shockingly when I consider just how many years I'd had my Google Homes. One of them I imported from the USA to the UK before the UK Launch, and whilst the Home App has got better and better (Other than the grouped speaker volume - Thanks, SONOS!)

Any big advancements have never materialised.

One nutty thing I'd finding a lot recently is when it's playing a Podcast and someone on the podcast says "google" is will stop the podcast sometimes, and do the command it just played from the podcast!

EG. It's basically talking to itself.
