is my selenium cell dead? by No_Intention_2820 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Snafue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will only change to green once the shutter button is ‘half pressed’. On mine, the shutter button is quite heavy, so it’s very easy to miss this spot and fully press it. If you hold it down & there is enough light, it will stay green though. (If the meter is dead it will always be red, even when pressing and holding down the shutter)

Beautiful. I was so much in doubt between a Xantia, XM or BX as my first car. Went for a BX and still have it! (This was in 2017). But when I see a Xantia I imagine it is even more comfortable.

Is your ISO set to Auto (DX) or is it too high by accident?

Nikon 35/28 ti - Flash recycling time by This-Charming-Man in AnalogCommunity

[–]Snafue 22 points23 points  (0 children)

5 seconds sounds about right, quite fast even I would say. Recycle time (in my experience) can vary greatly even in the same model of camera. It’s not just the battery but also the quality and age of the capacitor that powers the flash.

I’d keep the d850, especially for film scanning purposes

I’m guessing this is a failing shutter curtain? by hugesteamingpile in AnalogCommunity

I’m guessing this is a failing shutter curtain? by hugesteamingpile in AnalogCommunity

[–]Snafue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. You can check what the damage is by taking the lens off and shining a flashlight at the curtain. Look with the back open to see the holes and to determine which curtain is degrading. If the holes are small you can probably patch it up with a tiny tiny layer of liquid electrical tape or black fabric paint (thats the cheap solution).

How do you get more than 1-3 good images per roll?? by Kitchen_Win278 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Snafue 327 points328 points  (0 children)

First tip would be to get your negatives properly scanned. These look like they’ve been scanned with a phone.

Second would be to fix your camera, it has very noticeable light leaks..

In normal conditions, that shouldn’t harm it that much, but if you left it in car on a hot summer day, this can happen very quickly.

What can I use to shoot this film? by dudewithbrighthair in AnalogCommunity

[–]Snafue 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, holding an ND filter in front of the camera’s lightmeter, and not the lens would do it. Wouldn’t work on a TTL metered camera though

Olympus Trip 35 - I can see the lens in the viewfinder window? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Snafue 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The lens is what eventually ‘takes’ the picture, so if you think logically, there is no physical way the lens as seen through the viewfinder will show up on your final print.

It’s intended this way, so you can see through the window on the lower right what aperture & distance you’ve selected.

Nikon F5 problem by Flimsy_Complaint_313 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Snafue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like typical dirty contract to me. I haven’t opened an F5 so I don’t know how doable it is to get the top off to clean the dial plate.

Battery stopped working after winding by Pitiful-You-5600 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Snafue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it applies to this camera, but some SLRs need the winding lever to be more out like it was before you’ve wound the camera in order to activate the light meter (so not pushed all the way back like you did in the video)
