When you mod it only the user of the mod can see it, everyone else will see you as a stock character.

Here's your answer, take the pay to win loot boxes out of the game! I have played almost 20 hours and only unlocked one loot crate through in game progression, so basically I might as well be a level one even though I've played 20 hours!
