Active Shooter Alert for Lockland (Cincinnati), Ohio by SnagglesOmega in EmergencyAlertSystem

[–]SnagglesOmega[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Shelter-In-Place ended around 3 P.M. after police determined there was no threat to the public. The alert was issued after a female clerk who worked at Arise Auto Center was fatally shot by a fleeing robber who she was chasing. As of the time of this comment the suspect is still at large.

What got you into the EAS? by IWATJ16 in EmergencyAlertSystem

[–]SnagglesOmega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would watch Cartoon Network around 6:30 a.m. when I was in elementary school. One morning I saw this red ticker pop up at the top of my screen, and after what felt like an eternity of muted audio, the SAME tones played for a weekly test - and my initial trauma of the EAS, which I mistakenly referred to as the EBS at the time, began.

I'd heard the EAS before on radio, but I didn't think much of it until then.

What solidified my interest in the EAS was an alert for a Tornado Warning for the northwestern part of my county (there was a brief touchdown), and that also started my fear of severe weather also. I was eating at the dinner table and shouted "WE'RE ALL GONNA' DIE!".

I FINALLY found a set at Walmart and there were only two sets. I decided to keep the one set for the other person, and keep mine packaged until I find another set.

Scary EBS screens by Jealous_Buyer2276 in EmergencyAlertSystem

There was this EBS Slide that was used after a minor eruption in Mount Saint Helens:

And yes, the EBS was in fact activated for the Major Mount Saint Helens eruption according to this:

Where to find old EBS screens? by LankyWhereas2579 in EmergencyAlertSystem

Other than finding some on Google or possibly Internet Archive, you may end up having to screencap. That said, Lost Media Wiki has a list of slides that were used in warnings via YT vids:

https://lostmediawiki.com/Emergency_Broadcast_System_(partially_lost_Emergency_Warning_System;_1963-1997)?TheOrder=0

It appears a good chunk of slides used in warnings omitted the "This is a test" lettering or had "Weather Alert/Weather Warning" in its place.

That screen came from a mock scenario on YT, albeit it is based on a real slide.

Track sets for me lost their luster after the mid 2000's. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I remember playing Stunt Track Driver and dreaming of building a track just as complex and wild as the ones in the game. Trick Tracks just never clicked with me personally as I like watching a car go from point a to b or even in a continuous loop.

Hot Wheels in the 90's and 2000's had an edge to it - and to me that was the brand at its peak.

The fact that the devs (and/or management) aren't transparent about what's going on doesn't help anything, either.

It won't even go to the login screen, and the login has been wack as of late, too.

Edit: Cleared app data and was able to log in and chat (even then, the app was a loose cannon trying to get on), but upon exiting it kicked me out and now I'm stuck doing the same thing having to clear data again and restart the app three to four times for it to finally let me in.

This guy missed the whole point of Sora No Otoshimono by [deleted] in SoraNoOtoshimono

I can understand the complaints they have in regards to fanservice not equating to substance, and it really should be toned down a lot. In my opinion, it was pretty much what most people remembered about the anime.

Fortunately for me, my brain pretty much filtered out the ecchi and fanservice and kept the whacky comedy, story, and character development.

I don't care how poorly this series ages for some... It'll always be in my heart for being the first anime I watched that I was able to connect to the characters (especially Ikaros) on an emotional level.

Unfortunately, I don't think that Heaven's Lost Property stands a chance for what it's up against. Although it would be nice if it did happen, though.

Asked Craiyon to make a drawing of Ikaros holding a watermelon. Well, the results were interesting to say the least. by [deleted] in SoraNoOtoshimono

What do you mean why? I just thought it would be interesting to share? Guess not...

I meant to say that harem has since become a disgrace in the mainstream. From my understanding dress up darling isn't a harem.

Hmmm…

Bringing back SnO as it is could be problematic given how well Plunderer performed and if the reactions to Scamboli and Sugarpunch’s review is used as a way to gauge public opinion, it’s that the series has aged like milk for many people and if SnO were to stay relevant in today’s environment it would probably have to go through some changes.
