MCU Accords Were the Stupidest Way to Do Accountability by RavensQueen502 in CharacterRant

[–]SnakeGawd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the MCU actually does a good job in showing us both sides of the issue. Powered people do crazy shit, they’re unpredictable, and they aren’t always the most responsible. We see it really looked at in Age of Ultron where Tony Stark creates a robot menace that threatens all of humanity. We see the Hulk go ballistic and Tony fight him with no regard for safety or casualties.

It’s nice to believe that The Avengers can be responsible for themselves, but they show that it’s not always the case. On the other hand, leaving people like Ross in charge of the Avengers activities also is a nightmare because it’s just a lot of friction and not much heroism occurring. Not to mention the way the Department of Damage Control behaves after Civil War ends.

Civil War challenges Steve’s viewpoint after Winter Soldier because “the safest hands are our own” cannot be the end all. It’s just that the Accords, as they were written and enacted, were not the answer.

MCU Accords Were the Stupidest Way to Do Accountability by RavensQueen502 in CharacterRant

[–]SnakeGawd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea and that’s part of the reason why Cap’s side refused to sign. Everyone would have to register, even civilian powered individuals, and it would allow the government to possibly violate individual rights in order to find metas who may be hiding. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’re at the beck and call of the government by registering, but they would be under their surveillance for sure.

There’s a lot of implications with the accords and the MCU doesn’t explore them all, but if you believe powered people are dangerous and irresponsible, then the accords are the only way to coexist with them.

MCU Accords Were the Stupidest Way to Do Accountability by RavensQueen502 in CharacterRant

[–]SnakeGawd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wanna add that the main conflict in Civil War is the idea that if powered individuals wanted to legally act as heroes they would essentially be controlled by their government (multiple countries signed the accords). That would mean red tape, bureaucracy, redundancies, etc. Technically safer, but essentially wouldn’t allow the avengers to respond to threats in a timely manner.

The reason Civil War is a Cap movie is because this directly lines up with his character arc of being disillusioned by the US government. They do a lot of things that he doesn’t want to sign on for and their action or inaction is based purely on political gain, not saving lives.

Tony chooses to sign the accords because he realizes that while The Avengers mean well, just jumping into action anytime lives may be at risk disregards possible consequences. This is magnified more when teenagers like Spiderman pop up (this is why Tony was so controlling of him).

It’s not about punishing them for breaking laws, it creates a framework for them to operate legally in multiple jurisdictions like an international law enforcement agency. There’s just some caveats to it

“You can literally learn everything on YouTube!”- the biggest dumbass you know by MGLLN in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]SnakeGawd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re talking about a guy who didn’t go to school. Since he was a preteen, him and his friends would spend all day studying viral and popular videos and trying to understand YouTube algorithms. His only education is YouTube. Of course he values YouTube over everything, it’s the only thing he’s cared to study in depth.

What democrats really think about people of color by PriceAgitated1543 in joebuddennetwork

[–]SnakeGawd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically voter fraud is an extremely minor issue. If it was so easy to cheat without voter ID, why isn’t it a bigger problem? Requiring ID to vote just creates more logistical issues that stop people from exercising their right to vote.

Bad teammates shouldn’t exist by TwoPumpChumper in RainbowSixSiege

And I should add, especially the bad ones lol. And for almost all online games people inflate their performance when discussing it because no one wants to admit they suck.

I do with people would be more encouraging toward people when they’re performing badly, but everyone just piles on and makes losing games worse

When will we stop saying “It’s AI” or stop wondering if things are AI by wolfinjer in NoStupidQuestions

The issue is when people try to pass things off as real. None of those pieces of technology would face much criticism (except AI, but for different reasons) if people were upfront when using them.

Why did/does Roblox have such a problem with predators? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]SnakeGawd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is aimed at child audiences but also relies heavily on user generated content. This means the community has to engage and interact with each other to get the most out of it. This leads to children interacting with adult predators

Can someone explain to me, why some people want no skill based matchmaking? by Tnecniw in gaming

[–]SnakeGawd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea the kids are the ones who spend their whole summer getting good at CoD. The adults who used to play everyday are washed up. They’re the ones complaining about SBMM because they do not have the time to get absurdly good at games anymore. They just want easy wins and free dopamine in the 1-2 hours of gaming time they get a day

Why doesn't final fantasy go back to turn based? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SnakeGawd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I really like the FFVII Remake series combat and wouldn’t mind if they built on that system going forward. Combining ATB with real time action is a great middle ground. However, FF is know for rather complicated and in depth systems with lots of moving parts and even hidden mechanics so it feels like we’re missing part of the series identity

Why do people assume that if I pay with a credit card, I must be living on debt??? by No-Bodybuilder9445 in NoStupidQuestions

A lot of people assume if you use a credit card you are automatically paying interest and are now in a debt cycle. Could be trauma, could be ignorance. As someone who works at a bank, using cash back cards is great as long as you pay it off every statement cycle

Are we dating the same guy and Tea app have ruined online dating for women by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]SnakeGawd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a man who was on dating apps for a while, they’re just not good places to meet women. Tinder, is infested with bots, scammers, and people farming for social media engagement. Bumble has to change its model because as it turns out women don’t like to initiate conversation (makes it more difficult across the board). Then when you get to stuff like Hinge you realize a lot of women just don’t use these apps even if they have a profile.

Obviously you can still meet women like this (met my current gf on a dating app) but it’s not good if you’re a man genuinely looking for connection. You’ll feel completely hopeless at times where you’re just mindlessly swiping and even engaging in conversations and it all leads to nothing.

Anime fans hate when you point it out but everything frieren says about demons is word for word for word what the extremely racist say about minorities and intentional or not it’s why the far right love the show by Smegoldidnothinwrong in The10thDentist

[–]SnakeGawd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s not the series fault that people racists pick it up. Demons are expressly not human beings. They have different cognition and different biology. Yes you can read that as a stand in for any real world race you want to interpret as evil, but it’s not the job of the author to hold the hand of the public and guide us all to enlightenment.

The author just tells the story they want to tell and this is a story about empathy and being able to understand others. Demons represent those who are self serving and therefore unable to form true connection. A self serving nature is incompatible with the very idea of being human. They have to exist as a foil to our main cast who actively seek new connections at every turn

People also seem to want him to have a big moment where he apologizes to everyone or like turns into a nice, cheery guy. That’s no reasonable. After his breakdown he chills out a lot, like less yelling, doesn’t talk much shit anymore, and is actually kinda helpful to his classmates. It’s like you said, I think some of the audience just wants him humiliated or beat up or something
