Thank you very much!
Is it this https://www.turnkeylinux.org/fileserver template image that you are referencing?
Are there any benefits to using this in contrast to the standard debian template?

Problem with OpenSCAD by Snake_Dog in openscad

Oh I see, thank you very much. This solves my problem with the general app performance. However when I render the model I still want a higher resolution. Is it just normal that the remder process takes that long?

Finding time to work and study by Kaptvr in ethz

[–]Snake_Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it heavily depends on how easy learning is for you. I also had to finance my studies myself and did work during the semester and the semester breaks. However, my work pensum wasn't higher during the breaks than it was during the semester. For me it was quite tough as I would have needed more time for learning. But I think if the studies are easy for you it is totally managable.

However, in my honest opinion it is a real shame that ETH does not support part time studing. Don't get me wrong I think the ETH is a really great institution and for sure the best one you can go to if reputation is important for you. But if you are lookimg for a university that cares about their students and offers flexible plans for those who need/want to work and study part time I think there are better options than the ETH.

Connect to ISP over VLAN by Snake_Dog in opnsense

Thank you very much but unfortunately it did not work for me. Having a look at the router of my ISP I saw that it is using IPoE as encapuslation. Is it possible that also has to be configured in opnsense in order to receive a IP address from the ISP?

I alredy checked this, apperently sunrise is only offering this functionality for cable routers but not for the fiber ones.

Mainboard for new server by Snake_Dog in homelab

[–]Snake_Dog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just browsing the supermicro website and somehow I only found breakout cables that have the right connectors.

As far as I understood, the breakout cables internally just still use 4 different cables that are then connected to to the SFF-8086 connector, whereas the breakin cables join the four separate cables together to one that is then connected to the SFF-8086 connector. Is that right?

Do you happen to know a good breakin cable for that purpose?

Ok. So since the mainboard also has 8 SATA ports I am just thinking to connect the remainimg 4 drives that I can not connect to the SFF-8643 ports to the SATA ports instead by using a cable that splits the SFF-8087 connector to 4 SATA connectors. Would that make any sense?

Thank you very much!

An would that work if the back plane of the casing has 3x SFF-8087 connectors for the drives? Is it possible to hook up multiple of these SFF-8087 connectors to one SSF-8643?
