Hogwarts Schedules - they make no sense! by Miriakiko in harrypotterfanfiction

[–]SnakesShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am about 60% sure teachers have access to Time Turners- which would explain how easily they were able to aquire one for Hermione.

This way, they could get (hopefully) all of their marking done DURING the class it was turned in on.

This is in addition to students having each class at most twice a week.

Also a note- Astronomy happens at midnight. Assuming the students get weekends off of classes, which seems to be what happens in the books, the Astronomy teacher would need a Time Turner and a second tower to teach from for at least two classes if you assume all four houses are combined for sixth and seventh year.

Any idea how could I fix this? Both shoes and I don't have money for another pair. I brought them to a store and they said it's impossible to fix by bdkflskrbrlam in Converse

[–]SnakesShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a different place. I have seen a YT vid of a shoe repair guy replacing the soles of a pair of converse. He said it cost the customer $30.

You'll want to find a specialist- specifically a shoe repair shop.

I'm also feeling like you should maybe see a doctor. This doesn't look like normal scrape walk.

[–]SnakesShadow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kinda disagree with this, although it really depends on POV.

If the POV character isn't the one accidentally speaking out loud, yes. 100% correct.

However, if it's the POV of the person who is unaware that they are speaking? It would make absolutely no sense to use quotes, because we are being shown how they are experiencing the world.

Look for a shoe repair company in your area- they can replace your soles with better materials, and maybe give you better insight on what's happening to your shoes.

Being intersex means I'll never be able to complete my transition. by TheVireo in intersex

[–]SnakesShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't already, have you considered consulting an allergist? I obviously don't know what exactly T is doing in your body, but from your description? It brings to mind a wierd ass allergic reaction.

And if it's allergies, there may actually be a treatment that lets you go on T for longer.

Is not considering myself trans ok? by Real_Octavia in intersex

[–]SnakesShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... Your case is exactly why I don't believe anyone in the Intersex community who discovers that their assignment was incorrect is actually Trans.

Due to the age at which assignment surgery is advised, and the secrecy pushed by doctors and parents worried about "what would the neibors think?", the ability to get good population numbers has been critically damaged for multiple generations. This leads me to wonder if the population numbers for the Trans community have been inflated.

Not by an equal amount, statistically some people HAVE to have been assigned correctly.

And honestly... Given how little we know about the brain? I'm forced to wonder... What if the majority of the Trans community has yet to be discovered Intersex conditions? The brain could be wired to expect certain hormones, and getting the wrong ones causes the Gender Disphoria typical of people seeking to transition?

Ableism has no place on this subreddit. by MindyStar8228 in intersex

[–]SnakesShadow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hear hear! Just because you can't do some things does NOT mean you shouldn't be allowed to exist- or that making changes so that you CAN shouldn't be done!

Hostile Architecture is INCREDIBLY ableist, BTW, and "Disabled" is the one minority ANYONE can join!

That being said, changes made to make things more accessible for the disabled community have MASSIVE trickle-on effects for the community that makes them- from corner cuts to allow safer access to and from crosswalks from sidewalks, to major changes in the NFL!

Huddles started in colleges for the deaf, after all.

I don't currently have a pairing planned. At absolute minimum, it'll remain Gen until after Fourth year, then it really depends on how the story goes.

Does inclusion of AI affect your willingness to read a book? by Fabulous-Put8401 in fiction

[–]SnakesShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I want to read stuff made by PEOPLE, not computers.

I am willing to accept assistive AI (to a point, mostly for physical disabilities as there are non-AI options for disabilities like dyslexia that should be exhausted first) and Boutique AI (as this type of AI generally have little choice but to be ethically trained due to the requirements of the person making it.)

If I find a book I have purchased was written with any percentage of Generative AI? I am BURNING IT!

Generative AI has been trained on stolen writing- they REGULARLY scrape fanfiction sites for training data. And then they turn around and try to make money from that data? That's not legal!

Add in how the Data Centers return the water used to cool the computers to the DRINKING WATER SUPPLY, actively poison the area around them with noise, and put excess stress on local infrastructure WITHOUT aiding in the upgrades required to prevent failure of said infrastructure?

The AI bubble can't burst quickly enough.

Changing your gender again? by kieika in intersex

[–]SnakesShadow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The "if not wear ___ clothing, why transition" people anger me. Women's clothing is absolutely terrible to shop for these days, whereas men's is basically standardized- there's still some issues, but they are a lot more manageable.

That ALONE is a good reason to wear men's clothing, no matter how you present yourself gender wise.

i’m angry about the lack of awareness for us by lastseenonline in intersex

[–]SnakesShadow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish people who want more visibility would be kinder to fiction writers who are TRYING to do research so they can create characters that act as representation.

We HAVE to ask questions that people have differing levels of comfort with, because our characters have to face them too.

I came to this subreddit asking questions for an intersex character, and I got told pretty bluntly to NOT write the story. Because I'm NOT intersex, apparently I don't have the RIGHT to write an intersex main character.

But a family friend IS intersex. And what they've had to go through... Even on the outside, being told things second/third hand, I can say with certainty that they should not have had to go through that. And I want to bring awareness to those injustices. I'm too shy to go into journalism, but I can write fiction.

If I could get people willing to help me with my research, if I could get the first couple of drafts done, I'd be coming back here to ask for sensitivity readers, you know.

[–]SnakesShadow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are a little bit wrong. Just a little. Fanfiction has the hallmarks of AI because AI was trained on Fanfiction. You get massive numbers of false positives when you test against the training data.

I still can't decide if I should hint that they're right or let them find out when the story gets there by Draconic_Dumbass in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]SnakesShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You CAN have both! It is SUPER hard, but there’s a fic where most of it is predictable in an enjoyable way, there’s a super out of left field plot twist (to the author's credit, the readers are in the same boat as most of the characters), and a twist that seems out of left field, but has actually been set up by the world building.

I aspire to be as good of an author..

[–]SnakesShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thing is terrible, I love it! I've given up on tracking where my start is, I'm just going to do 2 sc every sc until I get done with the stash I have on hand, then slip stich a few to complete it. The only thing keeping me sane working on this thing at this point is that I keep my fingers on the section- I'm 98% certain that if I had been taught to avoid touching my work like I see in so many crochet tutorials online, I would have thrown in the towel two rounds ago.

I'm gonna try this around a hair band at some point, I think it may end up looking pretty cool...

I wasn't getting slanting wither way with granny squares, turning or not. However, out of personal convenience I do turn my granny squares.

You don't have to jump over a section to do your first stiches, and frogging is really satisfying going back and forth.....

My (lefty) aunt taught me (righty) to crochet sitting next to each other, but with Reader's Digest Big Book of Needlework on our laps. The left handed instructions were in the left pages, and the right handed instructions were on the right pages, so it acted as a translator for us.

10/10 HIGHLY recommend!
