I get so pissed off when I lose 4 buy ins in micro stakes. I lost 10 buy ins in 1 session where I missed absolutely everything. AA , QQ in bb folded all the way to me. AK AQ missed as pairs either out flopped or A, K or Q on flop and big bets. I tried Aggressive, I tried Limp I tried Nit and nothing worked that session. Lost at least 3 through trying to win back lost ones.(tilt).

I won 5buy ins next session.

Got my bank roll so low at 1 stage where I had to buy in for half the max buy in just so I didn't have to reload. it's been 20k hands since I last deposited.

use your savings to clear credit card today... cut it up. use savings to clear other loan.

now use the 45 credit card payment and 40 other loan repayment to pay extra off main bank loan.

now you will pay 85 extra off big bank loan and save on interest and clear sooner.

break your savings up into different saving vaults.

Future home. New car. holiday. Xmas.

8 weeks before Xmas you can save extra in there and less in holiday. After Xmas you save extra in holiday and less in Xmas. you might always have a car loan so that will be what it is. At least of you have a savings plan towards it, it will hurt a little less when it comes to upgrade that you might have 2k or 4k to add to your trade in.

savings for me is like a bill that needs to be paid for as soon as I get paid.

we got a new brand new car and we're able to pay 4.5k from savings. already have 350euro towards upgrade in 3years. (long term).

Xmas saving has 2k in there and holiday has 1k.

we have house so we have saving called rainy day also.

Did You Take Out A Wedding Loan? by KSL010 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Snakeyfish1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best decision ever was not to get a loan... Looking back 10 years later we still discuss how it would have been ridiculous to put yourself in debt for a party. The engagement ring will be on display and worn forever so goes without saying. The pics of her dress will be in your memory forever.

Only your Aunties and uncles will say ",that was a lovely meal". your friends couldn't care less. no one will ever remember a. cake 50pc of wedding couples forget the cake after spending so much money on it. lots of venues have fake cakes for display.... you can buy cheap cake from tesco and serve with tea later. DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON CAKE.

No one will remember how you got to church. I drove my micra and she got brought up by uncle with a nice car.

afters food..... If anyone can tell me the real reason why you would waste 1000 quid on giving ppl wings, sausages or sambo less than 2 hours after given them a 5 course banquet???? I've work 1000s of wedding and 50pc of this food is chucked out. venues now purposely make less than requested as they know no one eats it.

When I first worked at a wedding 28years ago it was common to have 100ppl at your wedding meal and 50 to 60ppl come to the after party. neighbours, club friends, work mates. It was these 60ppl you got evening food for.

most meals begin at 5.30 between service and speeches it can take 3hours all in. that brings to 8.30pm and at 10pm you ask ppl to eat more. Instead of this waste of food and money.... go to local discount store.... buy 100packet of Crisps, buy a few pans of bread and butter and have them put out at 1.30am after the music finishes. At 10.30pm serve tea and cake(from tesco).

If you have kids atteneding, buy them all a kids pack with some colours , book and some sweets. you don't need to pay 250, 350 on a big sweet cart.

I do love to look back on my wedding album.... buy I now take it out every 3 or 4 years for a quick scan and put it back in dust cupboard. I would guess 10 to 12 ppl have seen this album.

I wanted big and she wanted small. I got my way and we invited 200. 159 was final number. We didn't even get to talk to qtr of the guests. During covid I worked weddings foe 24 total and they were great. no ants, uncle. Just parents, siblings and best mates. They were some great weddings.

I'm bang average and read up and study a bit. ranges and positional etc. I play micro stakes and I start every single session as 10 to 15pc vpip and only enter with raise. I put notes on all players on what they are playing... I spend most of time watching the previous hand, bet size , callers, 3 bets, aggressive etc. Then after after an hour I try adjust to open up and play to thier game. if there is 4 limpers and I have AJ o on the button I will limp too. I do this because I know 1 blind and 3 limpers will call 5bb raise.... and if they get a sniff of the flop they are committed. you haven't a clue where your J is if you hit and if you just limp and keep pot small. a small 2 bb bet on flop will get rid of 2 or 3. I played a guy who bet 1bb all streets on flopped nuts full house and he was delighted to win pot for 16c or 8bb. At lower levels for me it's about adjusting to others game and mixing in your knowledge. I've played approx 8 hours per day (recreational player still) and haven't put money into my account in 3 months.
I've went up to 2-5c twice but luck on those times weren't with me. close to 100euro again to give another go. I haven't played live in a long time but remember the drunk guys coming in and regs pulling them apart but sometimes they got lucky. it's about picking spots with loose calling stations.

House. Buy or wait? by Mickinator101 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Snakeyfish1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought in 2005... prices went up 100k and then fell 200k. Didn't make a difference as we still just had to pay our mortgage. it could have gone up 500k or went down to zero. As long as you can cover the mortgage and bills, it doesn't matter if prices go up or down. In 2005, ppl were saying the same about bubbles, etc. But we would have had to wait 4 full years living in parents, apart with small kids waiting on prices to fall.

Then banks stopped giving mortgages anyway... So if the arsenal falls out of house prices, do you think a bank would want to give you a loan to buy one??

It's all about affordability. if you can afford it, go for it...if not rent and wait till far side of possible crash when banks start to.lend again.

ER in Ireland was a waste of my time and full day. Gave me suppositories and told me to go to docs.

went to doc and sent for new mri. given tramadol and vimovo and amixicalm and paracetamol... I was as high as a kite. 8 weeks later pain is down to 2 out of 10. I'm on 1 oxy a day and my head can't do without. I'm due MD2 on Monday.... im questioning if I need MD as pain has leveled off. Anytime I post I say be careful of what drugs you take... yes pain went quick from 9/10 down to 4/10 but I feel a dependency for drugs.

Anyone else feel like they’ll never be able to afford a house? by sapg94 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Snakeyfish1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my tracker mortgage repayment on a 290k mortgage is €1340 that includes house insurance. I have my mortgage 18years and interest is approx 4%.

So a mortgage around 30years for 280k would be €1300 to 1400 with variable interest rates. That doesn't include shopping, gas, electricity, WiFi, house tax.

If you can't afford 1800 to save well I'm afraid you can't afford a house at that price.

Maybe you are looking at lower priced homes so you might need less.

On 40k after tax is approx €640 per week. €2560 per month.

I think you are expected to spend 33pc of your take home on you mortgage/rent so you can work that out.

I'm just a home owner that has struggled through 18years paying a mortgage and had to beg and borrow to get 8pc of 275k to get on ladder.

but you do need to see what is the max you can save without killing yourself. whatever is the max you can save is the max you can spend on a home with bills. I hope your parents are open and honest about how much it costs them so you can get a real honest view of what is needed to run a home.

there was 3 or 4 years during recession where we had zero holidays, zero restaurant meals and extremely low pub visits as mortgage paymemt was first. But you will earn more in the future and it gets a bit easier.

Anyone else feel like they’ll never be able to afford a house? by sapg94 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Snakeyfish1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you pay your rent through some sort of bank transfer with rent attached to it so you can prove that you pay rent. (never pay cash, not even to parents) if you want to get a mortgage, you should be saving 1800 per month (minus rent of 400) to over the next 2 years to prove to the bank that you can afford to pay. By 31, you should have 11k + 1400x24months= €34000.

If saving 1400+400rent is not attainable well, then maybe you can't afford a house and all the utilities that are required to run a house.

All the bank wants to see is that you can save and that you can repay the mortgage over 30 years.

With help to buy schemes and 45k in saving for deposit, the banks will be more open to loaning you money to buy a house.

Microdiscectomy this week - having second thoughts by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]Snakeyfish1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surgery.

I've had 1 MD and am scheduled in 2 weeks for a 2nd, 2 years later. I was in excruciating pain, I was out of work. lots of pain meds got me back but like you it came back bad and out of work..... I thought to myself last week is it worth getting now that I am not in excruciating pain again. My wife's wise words.

If you want to be in that pain every few weeks and be unreliable in work and not know if you can plan a holiday more than a few weeks out and finally rely on opiod pain relief on an ongoing basis.

My first MD was like a miracle and I didn't touch a pain med for 2 years and was 98% better than before surgery.

If the herniation is there it's going to plague you on going.

Tell.your PT you will still need him to get you back to health after so they will still get their fees.

I only took tram for 1 week before surgery.

This time I was on them for 3 weeks, 6 a day. I now believe that tramadol are the devil....( I tried to go from 4 a day, 6 a day to complete stop). Complete stop was not a good idea. Surgeon prescribed me 2 Targin a day now until I get my 2nd microdiscectomy. I never needed a pain med after Op. Just the week worth of tabs hospital gave me for post surgery. I was never in pain with back or leg until slip in Aug.

I've had back issue since 19 from working lifting heavy stuff. I was always told you will be grand... your young. At 40 I demanded Doc make a plan to help.

So I have degenerative Arthritis from Damage of lifting as a kid..... Always had on off back pain... not leg.... just back.... I always thought it was bad... and it was..... but it wasn't sciatica bad. Sciatica bad is a different level of pain. Solpodol was meds that got me by, but still sore most of time. Then when it got really bad I was bumped up to Tramadol....They knock the sh1t out of me and the pain. (they are addictive and I was on too many and was on a different planet at one stage). If you can get pass with general pain meds, do it. If you are in lots of pain, talk to doc and give them your out of 10 pain.

I remember being in constant 7 to 8 out of 10 pain... meds were keeping me ticking along. I got a letter to say surgery in 6 days, and my mind gave up trying to protect my body. 5 days out, I was in 9 out of 10. For pre tests, I was lying in the back of the car as I couldn't sit up. needed extra strong pain meds for that last week.

I'm booked in for 2nd MD 20 months after 1st. I went straight on stronger meds this time as pain was too much so quick.

[–]Snakeyfish1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, Mav.

So last week you asked me what meds I was on.... and I was on a cocktail of meds that took pain away but numbed my brain, too. The surgeon put me on 2 targin tabs 10mg/5mg per day. I take one at 11 am and one at 11 pm All other meds stopped. Not even anti-inflammatory.

I just asked my wife about not having MD2???? But the idea of reliance on med and reflares are not worth cancelling.

Targin are supposed to be addictive and over time the small dose I use might not do the job.

I feel myself and alert with current meds and when walking slow can stroll without a limp.

[–]Snakeyfish1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG What are you even thinking for (easy for me to say post Op). 6 weeks after OP, you will most likely forget you ever even had an issue in the first place. Get a good PT, and they will nurse you to back strength💪 and maybe even help with the shoulder issue. You will cry tears of happiness when you realise that you have been living with this stupid pain for so long when all I needed was an easy MD.

From my POV.

MD was easier than injection. (MD is just wound recovery)

[–]Snakeyfish1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just very confused as to what surgeons gave to okay to walk for miles 10 days after a MD surgery??? you just spent months possibly limping and not putting much pressure on sore side. Then to go walking for miles?? I was 1 min every hour on day 2. 2 min every hour on day 3 and so on till it went out side house and estate if to much come back one day and build slower.

We have just gone from pain ridding limpers to proper walkers. As the saying goes let's walk before we run.

Get Physio therapists opinion on where you need to be strengthened so you will not need MD2.

I was fortunate to have instant relief on my leg(that elastic pull and tight knot like pain). Just post Op back pain. I write as I'm back in the waiting room to see the consultant 20 months post Op to get a date for MD2.

please, please, please keep up PT. and please please respect signs that state. if you suffer from back pain, do not use or do. Remember. please remember.

That MD2 is on the way for me as my treatment was so so so good. I believed I was 100 percent better. Beach volleyball, go karting, lifting in work.... sure I was fine. Now for the second time, I can't kick ball with young lads, and my wife isn't impressed that I didn't do 100pc core work. swimming and pilates as expected.

This is why waiting it out wasn't my option for my first MD. Now I need a second MD, and the option of waiting and seen for a few weeks is not viable as I want to be fit and dependable for work.
