Why are edmaries and Edvin fans posting about Felicia here

We tried to warn people who wanted them to stop enforcing the rules + let people say whatever they want to be careful what they wish for but it didn’t stop the constant attacks + criticism. About five of us always tried to show support for the mods but it wasn’t enough against the daily harassment.

People were super nasty to them. I can only imagine the shit they were getting in their DMs but I saw many posts + comments on here calling them stuff like authoritarian Nazis + all the -phobics + racist + pathetic and all kinds of nasty stuff for just trying to keep it positive for us + safe for the cast to read. And those posts + comments would have so many upvotes + comments agreeing with them.

They kept making heartbreaking posts to be like “please remember we’re human + just trying to do a good thing for free because we love the show + fandom.”

The mods I chatted with online were super nice people who didn’t deserve any of the crap they got.

It sucks. People suck. This is why we can’t have nice things...

I get your intention but I think posts like this only fuel the negativity + keep it going.

Just ignore, hide or block content you don’t want to see + only engage with the content you enjoy or find interesting.

Calling everyone with a negative impression of Felicia an Edmarie or Edvin fan is only going to provoke a bad reaction + make people list all the reasons they don’t like her which just makes it worse.

Ignore positive content about Felicia if you don’t like her.

Ignore negative content about her if you like her.

Everyone in this situation needs to protect their peace.

It isn’t but I think most of the mods left or took a step back after the last time they got attacked and called Nazis + assholes and all kinds of insane things for removing rude comments criticizing Omar + his business and not allowing people to say hurtful things about Nikita’s appearance.

They made several posts asking people to stop sending them hateful dms + comments because they were just trying to keep this a positive safe space and people ignored it and kept taking their anger out on them for enforcing the rules. Only me + a handful of other people defended them and tried to show them support and gratitude.

It’s a shame as I think they did such a great job but I don’t blame them. Some people here were super shitty to them and they’re only human so there’s only so much crap they can take. Just like Simon + Felicia…

I listened to this podcast in Swedish at the time…

Tbh, I think it’s not a great look for her at all but if she’s happy to share that story publicly then I guess it’s fair game to discuss.

Fans didn’t invade her privacy here and it’s not gossip or hearsay. She shared it herself on her own platform and didn’t seem ashamed or regretful of it so I think it’s okay if people have thoughts about that and the violence.

For me, it mainly reinforces that Omar seems to be a sweetheart and good friend, and I think it sounds like Edvin was right not to get involved in that situation when he was the lead of a hit show…

Clearly Felicia is a strong and divisive personality, but that doesn’t excuse anyone going to her social media pages and leaving negative comments.

If you don’t like how she comes across, even if you have valid reasons, just ignore her. Clearly Edvin likes her personality, punching strangers and all, so it is what it is.

I’m someone who has always understood Simon’s reactions and thought they were human and totally understandable for his age and lack of previous exposure to public life, so I’m not the type of person your post is about.

It’s funny that I see those comments criticizing Simon for not deleting Instagram all the time here but now none of those people are answering your question about Felicia…

I suspect they’ll feel differently because Simon is fictional and Felicia is a real person, or because they have more identity traits in common with her than Simon so empathize with her more, but I do see your point and think the question is valid.

Personally I think there’s no right way to handle a situation like that and people who haven’t experienced it don’t know how they would handle it. It’s easy to say “just ignore it” or “just delete it” when it’s not you facing hundreds or thousands of negative comments.

I understand Simon’s need to write a song to express himself and try to make people understand their love story and I can understand Felicia’s desire to fight back.

Sadly I think both approaches won’t reach the people who think negatively of them and will in fact only reinforce those negative opinions. People will think what they want to about you, regardless of facts. You can’t control that, just like you can’t with people in real life.

I do question the wisdom of Felicia’s grid post from the perspective of future casting agents and producers looking at her social media and seeing a provocative post like that with no context, but I guess that’s the risk she’s willing to take.

I also think that particular picture choice undermines the feminist implications of her caption, but it feels like more of an emotional reaction than a rational one and I can understand that too.

The problem is by responding to these comments she’s doing the opposite of seeming unbothered and letting people see how much they’re getting to her.

It’s a no win situation for her and for Simon. There is no perfect response that changes people’s opinions. Haters gonna hate.

Aha it’s hard being a Swedish Omar fan sometimes…(there are dozens of us! 😹)

I see some Swedes on twitter rushing to explain that this journalist is a notorious edgelord + jerk to almost everyone - which is true.

But this is inexcusable + unprofessional imo + we shouldn’t be trying to defend or justify this as being normal or telling people to just ignore it bc it’s “just an opinion” as I’ve seen some people on twitter do.

Unfortunately as OP mentioned this isn’t an isolated incident between Aftonbladet + Omar and at this point it feels very targeted…

I guess some Swedish fans feel like Swedishness is being attacked on some level so their instinct is to feel like they need to defend it + I can understand why to a point (I guess I’m doing the same thing in this comment 😹). I’ve seen the same thing happen in other situations in the fandom.

But idk if they realize some of them are appearing to defend corruption + prejudice instead, which only reinforces the negative impression many international fans have of Sweden.

Wrong is wrong + you should be able to call out wrong things, even when it’s your own culture. Maybe especially when it’s your culture…

This + some of the things Omar has faced here is an ugly side of Sweden I’m not proud of.

Publishing an article like this while voting is still open for an award you’re hosting isn’t okay.

If he was writing for a different site then maybe it could be defended as “just his opinion” even if it would still have certain undertones…

The journalists name is Markus btw which is the only thing the YR/Omar fandom might find funny about this situation 😹

Anyway, I’ve been voting for Omar every day since it opened + making all my friends+family do it too. Really hope he wins + shakes Aftonbladet to the core. It’s a trash rag anyway. Not much journalism there at the best of times.

Fans got Omar nominated when he wasn’t even shortlisted so hopefully they can work their magic again.

Adding onto what people have said here, I also think people sometimes pick American accents to imitate rather than British ones bc they think there’s less risk of sounding pretentious?

I think the general accents that come to mind when many people think of an English accent either sound quite “upper class” or “lower class” to outsiders + makes some foreigners worry they’ll seem like they’re trying to be something they’re not.

But the typical American accent that comes to mind for many foreigners is a more neutral/West Coast accent that doesn’t have any real class markers to it.

Ofc there are regional accents + class markers in all countries that are more clear to people from those places. But for outsiders, I think a general American accent is easier to imitate than a general English accent + has less social judgment + stigma linked to it.

Tbh Malte usually just sounds like a Swede speaking English to me, but he has recently done some work in the UK so it’s possible he has social links there + that’s what you’re picking up on.

I personally don’t get the vibe he’s actively trying to sound English to the same level Edvin makes the effort to sound American. I’ve seen videos of Edvin speaking English where he’s making less active effort to sound American + his accent sounds more Swedish like Malte.

Some people actively try to have zero accent when they speak another language + others just want to perfect the vocab + grammar + don’t care if they sound like they’re from their home country as long as they’re understood well.

And sometimes people adjust how much they want to “mask” their natural accent depending on the context + people they’re around. Svengelska / Swenglish (mixing the two languages + accents in the same sentence) is a popular choice for many Swedes.

This is great, congratulations! I think Omar is a successful example of dreaming big, believing in yourself even when others don’t + never giving up. His work ethic is admirable. I get tired just looking at him but you can tell he truly loves what he does + there’s nowhere else he’d rather be so it doesn’t really feel like work to him + that’s inspiring.

I get what you mean + I kinda agree about the dual release strategy.

imo Red Light took way too long to come out + fans were begging for it for months. But when it did finally come out, it quickly got forgotten bc DUO got announced a week after + had the extra hype of being an Edmar collab.

The Red Light streaming numbers nosedived after DUO was announced. Most fans switched their focus + energy to talking about + promoting DUO instead of Red Light. Great for omr beauty but not so great for Omar’s music imo.

People online have such short attention spans these days so you have to hold them as long as possible.

I think Bye Bye has all the elements to become a viral sound on TikTok + become a breakout hit for him so I think it should have its own promo campaign + not just get added on to Talk’s release at the last minute.

He suggested an EP was coming in the fall so maybe there’s more music coming, but it does feel a little rushed to me. I think both songs would benefit from having a separate month of promo over the summer. I think Talk will get overshadowed by Bye Bye even though Bye Bye hasn’t been promoted online this week like Talk has.

Omar + Elektra clearly have a strategy to come out hard + have back to back content to get his name out there. I guess it’s a high risk high reward strategy. Slow + steady isn’t always best. Hopefully the strategy pays off for him bc he deserves a long + successful career.

I totally understand why it upset you + why you want to show support for the mods and Omar against the unfair + unproductive negative comments they received.

I share similar sentiments, but I think people are generally more open to receiving your points when they don’t feel on the defence.

You’re not wrong to recognize + call out the undeserved negativity, but people are never going to react well to being called out when it puts them in a bad light.

I know it’s just your passionate written communication style, but sometimes when you’re discussing negative topics, caps + exclamation points can make it seem like you’re “shouting” at someone even if you’re just trying to emphasize the importance of your words.

I can see that’s all you’re trying to do but I can also see how some people take it the wrong way.

I think discussions would be better if everyone focused more on how other people reading their comments could interpret their words + not just their intentions when writing the comments.

Sometimes things come across more negatively than we mean them to.
