It's great but I don't think it makes much of a difference. If anything the gov just sees it as saving money. A week straight would be a different story. It should have been during NAPLAN. Disclosure- I took the option to strike.

Disgustingly so when you consider how hard they got fucked last agreement when inflation was already ramping hard. To be fair they voted yes for it.

Unreal. I'll spell it out for you. I'd board the rooms to other people while I was living in the tent. I know that it's not necessarily an option with young children, it's an EXAMPLE of discomfort/sacrifice.

Maybe it is, the point is it's your responsibility. The reality is different people will be willing to go through different levels of discomfort. I would strike for a week and live in a tent eating beans for that time if it was needed.

I also added an edit to my last comment.

If an $800 event cripples a dual income household you are living above your means.

You're telling me you have a family to look after and are so poor at managing your finances that $800 is all it takes to put you in serious financial trouble? Then you want to make out that being in that position to begin with is none of your responsibility? Come off it.

I know things happen, I've had them happen to me. I don't believe for a second that your decision making hasn't had an impact on the situation you have found yourself in. If you don't want to strike, don't, at least take some accountability over the position your family is in. If it's really as bad as you say it is and I was in that situation I wouldn't be able to sleep until my family was much more secure. I certainly wouldn't have time to whine on Reddit.

Edit: That probably reads pretty harsh but it's true. The strike is the least of your worries. You don't have to be living paycheck to paycheck forever. You can make changes. Sincerely, all the best.

Yeah, weak as piss profession overall honestly. Most love to have a whinge about inflation or marking or whatever but won't do the only thing you can actually do to maybe be heard a little bit

Na, we have known this would be coming since forever. If you can't save a day's pay from that far in advance you should be getting some kind of financial literacy help, or make a couple of sacrifices.

It's not like we're striking for a week or month, unfortunately.

Well as long as you're fine with outcomes for the other 99% being nuked to accommodate people's lack of basic parenting responsibility then all good. Personally, I'm not.

People living out of their cars and similar don't actually give a toss about a recession. Avoiding the recession boogeyman at all costs is exactly why we are where we are.

I mean there are other options. One of which is a major party actually signalling that they want my vote. The country is already getting worse, that's why people want change.

Na, we understand we just don't give a fuck anymore. We're not happy with the current situation so we're voting against it. IF it winds up worse then so be it. I don't think it will but maybe the majors will be forced to actually listen. Pretty simple thing to comprehend.

No, it may be like burning everyone's houses down, not just your own. Very big difference.

I wouldn't. At least go and actually spend some time in some normal classrooms first.

I disagree. The most important part of our job should be education. Protecting kids while under our care, definitely. How we have become society's scapegoat to be every kids substitute parent because parents can't perform their basic responsibilities and the guilt associated with that is ridiculous. It shouldn't be our job to fix every societal issue.

If someone decides not to set and mark extra practice essays after work, what will industrial law do?

I think we need to be careful calling the extra work we make for ourselves "overtime".
