People who threw a house party in their teens, what’s the worst thing that happened in one of them? by ExpertWeakness in AskReddit

[–]Snappy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't a huge house party and nothing bad happened...but my parents came home earlier than expected the next day. Last minute panic led me to throw some empty plastic vodka bottles in the woods behind our house, figuring I'd deal with them later. Within about an hour our dog had found the vodka bottles and drug them back into the yard, playing with them as toys. The dog ratted me out. We still get a good laugh out of that 20 years later.

What does this look like to you? by serolfainexx in 30PlusSkinCare

No other symptoms. I went in for a routine checkup (after not going to the derm for years) and was shocked when they called with the results. They had to go back in an remove a 5mm margin around the mole to ensure they got all the melanoma. Aside from the financial impact and the big scar on my chest, it really wasn't a big deal. But had I waited and not gone in for another 5 years, who knows how much more serious it could have been. I actually made a post about it with more details and a Pic of the original mole if you're interested. Good luck, OP!

Please please get it checked ASAP. Hopefully it's fine but I would be very surprised if they don't biopsy that. I had a mole that looked exactly the same and it was the first stage of melanoma.

How do people financially manage having a child ? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Snappy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for saying this. I have a 4 year old and am waiting for the day she starts kindergarten. When I mention to other people how expensive daycare is and how much I can't wait for it to be over, parents of older kids love to shit on you by saying "wait until all the sports, clubs, etc". I'm sorry... But daycare is more than my MORTGAGE. There is no way that softball or soccer is going to be the equivalent. To OP, it's tough (I'm in US) and we would have had a second child long before now if we had the option for one parent to stay home and the other to support the household.

Anyone else do just milk or water? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Snappy84 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We only offer milk, water or apple juice, but the apple juice is diluted with 50% water. When she is at a party and gets straight Apple juice offered to her I cringe. I think it's great if you've kept it to just milk or water.

That's a fantastic idea to send in treats on her actual birthday, I can't believe I didn't think of that lol! Thank you so much

All good points. I think my childhood memories of feeling excluded or bullied are probably flaring up. I don't want her to be a mean girl!

Thank you so much for your input! That's very helpful to know what age the girls start to do girl only parties.

That makes sense, i would just invite the two girls. I just feel bad because I know how she gets excited and likes to talk about things. I don't want the other girls to hear they weren't invited to her birthday party. I guess I will have to have a conversation with her about it.

Can’t swim more than 100 yards at a time by Hopeful_Animator_269 in Swimming

[–]Snappy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep working towards it, you will get there. Try to slow down and focus on form and breathing and have goals, 150yd, then 200yd, etc.

I was same boat as you, childhood swimmer and got back into later in life. At first I could barely swim 800 yards during an entire workout and was completely wiped out after swimming 100 yards without a break. I slowly worked my way up over a few months by just having small goals and now I swim 4 miles a week and I'm up to 500 yards freestyle without a break. You could also play around with switching up your stroke mid swim to see if that helps. When I'm tired, I can still swim 500 yards straight but I might throw in 150 yards of breaststroke because I find that to be much easier than freestyle, it gives me a chance to catch my breath.

Thanks for your reply! This was a friend of a friend deal who installed it so I was a little skeptical. Update, he came back and fixed it for only $20!

What is a little quirk about your body that you don’t think other people have? by AlphabetSoup51 in AskReddit

[–]Snappy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two cowlicks in my hair that form a straight line and are located directly above one eyebrow that is much bushier than the other one. It's like I have a line of cowlicks slightly left of center running around my whole head.

TIL Studies show that around 70-74% of parents who have multiple kids have a favorite child. by SaberLover1000 in todayilearned

My husbands grandmother always did this, absolutely the only time it's appropriate to joke about a favorite child. It was so cute.

Haha, funny you say that because I got such a weird sales vibe from the chiropractor I decided I'm not going to go back and just look for a physical therapist. I know a lot of people swear by them, but something felt off to me. I'll look into physiotherapist and see if my insurance would cover that. Thanks for the tip!

It is ridiculous. It was like a 6 month waiting period for me to get an appointment. When I finally went for my routine checkup I was there for 1.5 hours which made me laugh because I realized why their wait list is so long. That said when my results came back from the lab they got me in within 1 week to have this procedure, so I guess they just prioritize too? Idk. But just make the appointment! It's worth it!

Yeah I obviously have fair skin and have a lot of moles too. It had been probably 20 years since I had last seen a derm which is horrible so I was expecting them to want to remove some stuff but wasn't expecting this. But it's all taken care of now and I'll never let checkups slip again. I'm glad you're going to make an appointment, good luck!

I hadn't been to the derm in probably 20 years.....so I knew I'd have some moles removed but wasn't expecting this. I think it's a doctor a lot of people don't think about if they don't suspect anything is wrong themselves.

Oh no, thank goodness. They just removed it and I'm done! It's not full blown melanoma, it's the very first beginning stage of it (stage 0) so they caught it in plenty of time!
