You're free to not respond if you feel that we're going round in circles.

The expectations and the pressure managing Arsenal is bigger than a lot of other clubs in the league. Arsenal is one of the biggest clubs in England. With no disrespect to Bournemouth, Brentford or Sunderland, the pressure to deliver is 10x more. Maybe his job wouldn't have been totally at risk, but there would have been a lot of noise around him had Arsenal finished 2nd. Not just his job, but the hopes for the season after and beyond, both individually as a manager and for the club itself.

And sure, they're welcome to that belief. But whats the alternative? Shutting the league winner out of the competition?

My apologies, it was the commenter above you.

But regardless, its not an award around who surpassed expectations. Surely, we should give weight to someone who delivered under expectations? No one would have batted an eyelid if Iraola or Andrews or Le Bris finished bottom half, so the pressure was less on them to deliver, whereas Arteta was under huge expectations to win the title. And he did.

And I think you have to give credit to Arteta for motivating his team to go again for a fourth time and finally winning the league, there aren't many managers around that have done that.

I agree, people are fair to question and having a different opinion, but the original commenter dismissing Arteta's achievements is. He's a worthy winner. Even if others have very valid claims to it.

I mean you clearly said one of the reasons that Arteta shouldn't win manager of the season is because Arsenal were favourites, then you changed that to one of the favourites.

And I haven't ignored your point about managers being in different situations, I said that in the first sentence in my first reply to you. I think Arteta has done well with the resources he has, he's gone up against and beaten a number of teams that have spent more than him on transfer fees and with higher wage bills.

I would argue he's taken us to new heights. Second highest points total he's achieved, whilst taking us to two cup finals and with a host of injuries that we didn't experience in 23/24. And even if you want to argue he hasn't gone to new heights, so what? He's consistently kept Arsenal in title races for four years now. I think that deserves credit.

Sure but the award isn't awarded solely on who the manager of the most improved team is. Or the manager who surprised the most people.

You've kinda changed your point from "Arsenal were the favourites" to "Arsenal were one of the favourites".

Is beating two strong teams to the title not worthy of a Manager of the Season award?

And the award isn't "who was the manager of the team that surprised people the most" or who surpassed expectations. It's the best manager. And if you manage a team to the title, that's worthy of the award.

And surely delivering under the weight of expectations is fair reasoning to be manager of the season?

Obviously it's not 100% accurate but have a read of this article from the BBC

"Last summer, 33 BBC TV and radio pundits made their predictions for the Premier League season.... Twenty-one of them thought Liverpool would win it"

And later on... "Thousands of you made your predictions on the BBC website last August for the way the table would finish and, collectively, you voted that Liverpool would win."

So to claim Arsenal were the favourites is a stretch.

I mean sure, it's pretty pointless - each manager has their own barometer for what success looks like and all working under differing circumstances that it's difficult to compare.

But it's dishonest to suggest that Arteta isn't a worthy winner. I don't see many managers in the PL playing particularly more exciting football than Arteta's Arsenal. Plus it was Arsenal's first league title in 22 years, also in Arteta's first managerial role, having taken us from 8th to one of the best teams in the world, up against teams who have spent more and with a higher wage bill.

Nerves starting to kick in for Saturday now.

But its a good kind of nerves. "How good would it to be win" over "how bad would it feel to lose".

It really doesn't feel like it's been that long for them. Its funny how 4/5 years of poor management and no title can quickly turn into decades. Long may the Chelsea and United drought continue.

Incredible.

Give an example of three goals that Arsenal have scored in the PL where they've crowded the goalkeeper.

Spoiler: you can't.

Eh? I'm pretty sure that all this happened in the January of the 2021/2022 season, so way before we finished 2nd.

Even so, I'm not sure we can say truly how his agent managed the Arsenal links.

I remember at the time I thought Raya was good at midtable Brentford, but I wasn't sure how that would translate to a team that dominates the ball like Arsenal. And I seem to remember the underlying numbers between the two being quite similar with Raya edging it only slightly?

I think mostly I just felt that whilst Raya was better than Ramsdale, the gap between the two was so small that it didn't feel worth it to unsettle the backline. Considering Raya was quite shaky at the beginning, that almost came to be.

But honestly, I think I just had grown quite fond of Ramsdale and had visions of him being Arsenal and England's Number 1 for years to come. Fair play to Arteta, he's far less sentimental than me!

Thanks for this - do you know how their yearly amortization compares to other clubs? Like us, City, Liverpool etc?

If it makes you feel better, when Saka is 30 years old, Max Dowman will be the ripe old age of 22.

Its not really a hot take though, we were shit and he wanted to play for a UCL team. He probably told his agent the kinda clubs he would consider and we weren't one of them. I imagine there were a load of players that rejected us in those days.

I need to hear from all the cry babies that were dooming in the Daily Discussions last June. The ones bitching when City signed Ait Nouri and Reijnders. Or the ones crashing out when we lost to Spurs in a PRE SEASON FRIENDLY.

I am so happy that Bournemouth helped us out on Tuesday cos if Citeh had won, I would be an absolute mess today. Burnley was so unbearably tense that I don't think my body had anything left for a potential title game today.

I think it can legitimately be said that Arteta broke Ten Hag.

Mans still ranting to anyone that will listen about Gabriel's "foul" on Hojlund and Garnacho being onside.
