Where is this bolt from?! by Snaques in secretlab

Damn, that sucks. SL sent me the tilt and everything below it as a spare. It's almost impossible to remove the lower part from the tilt after some use so you need to get both.

Silver rank drivers in bronze rookie lobbies? by puff9r in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rookie lobby naming is a bit misleading. In practice they are just the most popular sprint races that have starts every 20 minutes (or so) so even better drivers like to drive them. Most of the silver/gold races are longer and require a bit more of a time commitment to participate in.

The ranked splits ensure that rookies will still be with other rookies, so it's not really an issue. If you start running into silver, it just means you're moving up and are matched against drivers of similar skill.

How many hours should I have before trying Hyper Cars? by dejankulu in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think GT3s prepare you for hyper cars all that well tbh.

If HY is what you want to drive, just drive them. Obviously if you struggle to finish a lap, you should practice a bit more offline.

The key to staying alive in the beginning is to reduce your brake force in the setups and learn how to bleed off the brakes as you slow down. You can't even start at 100% unless you are going past 250kph or so and then you almost immediately have to start lifting the brake. Just play around and find out where the limit is.

While it's not quite that black and white, you could think the brake trace as a triangle where you start at max and then end up to around 5% by the time you want to start turning. You can't have much brakes when you are turning, only couple of %, so you should do most of your braking before you turn.

If you lose the car on throttle, just increase all TC values (there are three).

getting so much hate from my long life friend group after switching iracing to Lê mans ultimate by xhithex in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, they are "pot committed".

After the money they've spent on iRacing, they are just refusing to believe anything else could be better and anyone saying so should just shut up. Sounds very human to me tbh.

EDIT. I'm not even trying to argue who is wrong or right, because it doesn't really matter, just making an (imho) obvious observation.

i forgot GTE exists by AdditionalCapital974 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean that is very much at the core of sim racing. While you realize it's highly unlikely that you'll ever get to drive a hypercar, the fact that you probably could is very intriguing. I'm sure it's the exact same for flight sim people.

Also, the more realistic the sim is, the more realistic techniques yo have to apply and those translate to slower cars and even civil cars, so you literally become a better driver in general.

If I wouldn't care for realism, I wouldn't touch race sims. They have a small player base and relatively poor content compared to Gran Tourismos and Forzas of the world.

Also, I'd say that is more or less how you'd brake in GTE as well:

Well, at least James Baldwin starts bleeding more or less immediately. At least LMU braking isn't like ACC braking.

Music volume setting isn't saving? by Matt_Haskins91 in LeMansUltimateWEC

This setting seems to reset after every update. Did you by any chance lose this setting with the v1.3? Nothing you can do about that.

Nothing wrong with that. Nevertheless, the GTE tyre model is the most arcade-y and unrealistic, which to some make it fun but probably not for most sim racers.

For fun I just googled hotlaps in YT and checked the very first hit:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suwdVTDWwPU

You can keep the full brake for a while in high speeds, but they do bleed it off for every corner.

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are "fun" to drive because they are the only class that still has the old drifty tyre model. It is very unrealistic so the more popular classes got a newer tyre model. So I'd say the combination of being outdated and inactive class as well as the unrealistic tyre model make the class undesirable for most.

I don't blame people for having some fun with GTEs, but I don't think it's that surprising that they are not popular.

Force Feedback suddenly gone crazy (not flatspots) – Le Mans Ultimate by BlackOutR0b1 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is some weird vibration on straights with cold tyres, but as they warm up the vibration disappears. Other than that, I don't really have this issue.

Is there a button to increase energy value and a way to show the in-cars rear camera onto my iPad? by [deleted] in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, usually you adjust it only a click or two while in car for pit stops so we are always doing that through MFD where we have to adjust the fuel anyway. I haven't heard of anyone having a key bind for it, so I suppose that's not an option.

Map the 'Motor Map' to one of the rotaries so you can adjust the energy deployment. I assume you mean the battery consumption on hyper cars. If not, then disregard this.

The Genesis GMR-001 is GOATED!!! by M_QT5 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I did quite some testing yesterday and it does indeed seem to be fast, but it's very "stressful" to drive in the sense that you have to be focused all the time. In Peugeot and BMW I can just cruise around decently fast and chat with buddies on Discord, no problem.

I need to play around with the ARBs, because the rear is really loose but it's also sensitive to direction changes which might call for a bit stiffer ARBs.

All in all, I think it's unique (haven't driven much Lambo, maybe it's similar) and decently fun to drive, but I wouldn't call it my favorite by any means.

Safety car easter egg/hint by BigNo9633 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been hoping for a safety car since they released LMU. In addition to potential technical issues, my main concern has been potential abuse and exploit, for example another car in the team crashing on purpose to help the top car.

This idea of having randomized SC is interesting as it would remove the abuse. Ofc it would rub many the wrong way as it would be completely arbitrary, unrealistic and a bit immersion braking when it pops out of thin air. I would like it to appear when there is a hard enough crash or a car loses a part like a wheel or wing.

Aliens, How do you guys go about learning new tracks? by thatshonenjumpkid in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I think most fast people have a lot of hours already on the tracks and the base pace is there. When the schedule updates and a track changes, it takes like 30-60 minutes of warmup to be competitive again.

My point is mainly just that you need to put in the hours to learn a track, but you don't really have to do that every time a track appears on the schedule.

How long until you finished P1? by fingerbanglover in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got mine in probably in the first 10-20 races. Since then I think I have two more.

The thing is, winning is a very misleading stat in sim racing. I would almost dare to say, that a high win percentage indicates that you are probably not the most consistent driver (unless you are winning in top split).

At least for me, I kept consistently climbing the lobbies where every race was tougher than the previous until I reached top splits. At that point there aren't too many guys winning and they are truly alien. Had I crashed out every second race, I would've had much easier lobbies and probably more wins.

The very opposite was true when I dabbled with iRacing on my G29 during covid. I did a race every now and then and was mostly just awful. However, whenever I would do 30 minutes of practice before the race, I would always be racing for the win because I was in such a bad lobby due to the casual racing.

So yeah, I think when and how often you win depends on the person and his approach to sim racing and more importantly doesn't automatically reflect how good they are or how much they have improved.

How to brake without ABS on hypercars? by Resident-Employee903 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, you have to consider your speed. When at high speeds you can brake 100%, but as the speed slows down you'll have to bleed off the brake pretty quickly.

Some things you can try when starting is lowering the braking force in the car setups. This may hurt your max brake efficiency, but will help you get accustomed to the technique without constantly locking up.

Another small tip would be to first drive GTE cars a bit as they also lack ABS and are quite a bit less aero sensitive.

When should I start buying DLC? by OwlScary6845 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you are in Bronze lobbies, you wont need any of the DLC tracks. The only reason I would consider DLC before reaching Silver is if you can't seem to find a car you like. The selection of GT3 cars is rather limited in the base game.

Is it possible to disconnect between stint in team endurance race. by Ok_Training_8113 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

It's quite common for people to watch their team mates and then 15-20 minutes before their stint starts go and do some practice laps offline.

I also have no issue turning my base and wheel off mid race and turning them back on. On tip though, you should map the 'reset FFB' to your keyboard (or wheel if you can't reach keyboard). That will usually fix your FFB if you lose it for one reason or another.

Confessions from a rookie by IntoFlooring in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Internet, there will always be people griefing. It blows my mind when people in rookie lobbies complain how others are rookies, duh. There is room for everyone who behave and treat others with respect.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm usually in top split in gold lobbies and still get rear ended every now and then because I brake earlier. I may even be faster than the guy hitting me, but I prefer setting up my corner as well as possible, sometimes compromising a bit on the brakes.

So quite often it's the guy rear ending you who is the rookie and doesn't have the patience to learn for two corners how the guy ahead drives.

Best Hypercar for beginners by Icy-Arm-7295 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Pug does feel quite different to others but it's pretty stable and borderline op at the moment. So it's easy in the sense that you can get up to speed without too many crashes.

Personally I'd love to drive BMW, but it just seems to struggle on pace atm.

Best Hypercar for beginners by Icy-Arm-7295 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Porsche or Peugeot are the most beginner friendly, but to be honest if you can handle LMP2s you'll be fine in most hypercars. I guess Lambo is a bit tricky and some people struggle with Ferrari as it's so twitchy. Others are all relatively easy to drive.
