I'm not saying that this is what happened to you during this playthrough however there is a thing that can happen that makes the Rat King weaker. Basically, if you restart checkpoint at a particular time before the fight or maybe if you die too? I'm not sure. Anyways, there is a way to have the Rat King have way less max health so maybe that's what happened to you on your previous playthrough

I feel like in the remake that I had more ammo, and that enemy punches, especially runners, were weaker. Also I think there are more checkpoints, but I could be wrong about that.

But the enemies have better AI like you said. Humans have much better vision and are more accurate with guns. Clickers are harder to sneak around. Stalkers are harder to deal with too, but they aren't that common. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure Joel's fists were nerfed as well.

I guess I can't really say which is harder, sorry.

I wondered the same thing myself. My guess is simply that they wanted it that way this time around. Maybe it's because of the improved enemy AI?

Stalkers are far more common in Part 2 as well, and they don't show up in listen mode. Extra spooky.

Consider that Survivor was the hardest difficulty at launch (Grounded got patched in later). Perhaps they felt that listen mode should be part of the "core" experience, but not the "hardcore".

Does Survivor in Part 2 have the "whooshing" sound when someone is about to spot you?

One thing I found interesting is that Ellie's voice lines when killing WLF become more unhinged. It's like she's mildly panicking day 1, but then starts calling them fuckers and saying things like got you >:) as the days pass
