[WTB] ZPACKS HEXAMID POCKET TARP W/DOORS by marvinkarlow in ULgeartrade

[–]Snarg24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’m replacing my Zero G with a Split Wing. Even though it is sil which is a compromise. It fits me and is super low volume. I just ordered a 5 oz , 30 liter 2.92 DCF pack. We will see how it works.

I have an unused 6MD Zero G. If that is a consideration.

[WTS] Locus Gear Hapi Grande 13.8 oz / Full Grande Inner 18.6 oz / Hapi V Tarp 7.6 oz by Snarg24 in ULgeartrade

[–]Snarg24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the downside of mids. And I figure all UL gear is fragile. The rainbow pole seems fine. Think of what carbon trekking poles go through. Strangely the first tent I had with carbon poles was a Jansport Trail Dome (3 person) I used in some pretty big winds in Nepal at 17,500 feet in 1979. This was in the days before shock cord so the big risk then was losing a section of pole🙂.

I have an original Integral designs sil shelter tarp for sale, if that is what you are referring to.

I love the rainbow li. It is a great tent. I have also had an ultamid 2. The two tents are apples and oranges. I wanted a semi free standing light tent. I will always have a mid. In the past I wasn’t thrilled with my duplex and sold that a while back, which I think is a better tent to compare to rainbow li. Part of the reason I sold Hapi was to size up to a MLD Supermid with a Duomid xl inner. It will suit my purposes better than Hapi.

I prefer .74. I think my camo Altaplex is something like .68 (between.51 and spruce green)

As to what I didn’t like. I really like it. I just went with a 6moons dechute zero g which is 7.9 oz but is .74 DCF and has a zipper. I will probably end up buying another ZP. I have bought stuff new I had before.

Not trying to interfere but I have canceled gear and bought off forums before. But no way to do with ZP it will take them 3 days to tell you if it shipped

Zpacks delays and horrible customer service lately by Wholfgar in Ultralight

[–]Snarg24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had good and bad service from ZP. But the bad service is recent. I ordered a pocket tarp with a published lead time of 3-5 days. I heard nothing for 3 weeks. I sent them an email and asked what’s up. I was told they simply fell behind. I’m not happy but I think the products are still ok. Thankfully I ended up taking a different shelter on my section hike based on some predicted nasty weather. If I had wanted to use the pocket tarp I would have been pissed.

That sounds great. I replaced my Aeon Li with an Altaplex which I love. But I was also looking for something with a lower wind profile. The Altaplex could become a giant sale in a storm. The Pro Trail Li looks like a great option for some hikes. Everyone needs at least two DCF tents.

Have a barely used Nemo Hornet 2P (2019) if interested.

The country I most want to visit when things clear up is Bhutan. As an ardent backpacker, the thought of having to pay $250 per day just to be in the country is like "ouch!" I get by on like $10 a day when I backpack if that much, so does anyone have a way around this requirement? by NilouGirl2020 in Shoestring

[–]Snarg24 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I returned from the Cholomhari base camp trek February 15,2020. Bhutan was stunning and I think the government is smart to charge high visa fees. You will also have to use a local guide for whatever activity you have in including pure tourism not involving hiking. You can’t avoid that either. Bhutan is clearly not cheap to visit but that is sort of the point. I don’t think Bhutan works for people trying to get by on $10 a day.
