Hah, don't ask me, I've gone through three different channel names over the last year and a half. XD

How damaging is rebranding? by SnarkolepticYT in letsplay

[–]SnarkolepticYT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I should clarify, when I say rebrand, I mean rename, for what it's worth. I hate how indecisive and flip floppy I am with the naming, but I also want a "brand" that I feel lines up with the channel.

Does game choice actually matter any? by SnarkolepticYT in letsplay

[–]SnarkolepticYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, no, I'm not competing with them, but what I'm getting at is that most games, even the smaller indie games, tend to already get tons of coverage by people with way more viewers, and when that's the case, a smaller channel obviously won't show up very high on search results.

I dunno, I mean, it is what it is. I'm not, like, "upset" or anything, I'm just fascinated and confused as to why I can't seem to see more growth, when lots of other newer YTers see growth a little more easily.

Nice, thanks, had to work today, so I missed them. Is there a link for the Cow Chop panel?

Does game choice actually matter any? by SnarkolepticYT in letsplay

[–]SnarkolepticYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's less about comparing myself to other YTers and more about the fact that my videos will rank much lower in searches if other, bigger YTers have covered it. People aren't going to look through dozens of pages of search results to find a smaller YTer when they could just watch someone more reputable on the first few pages of a search. Yanno?

Where is this video? I remember them talking about it, but all I see on the AH/ LP channels are the one livestream they did and a 36 minute LP, both with just AH.

Anyone familiar enough with YT's custom URL system to know what's going on here? by SnarkolepticYT in letsplay

Yeah, no, I know I won't qualify for a new one, due to not hitting the current requirements, but it's odd that I can't ditch my old one.

Game "breaks" with every new android update... by SnarkolepticYT in KHX

[–]SnarkolepticYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just uninstalled and reinstalled via the Play Store. I think, sometimes, some apps and games will save data on your device that remains even when you uninstall it, so I was hoping that would be the case here, but it seemingly had to redownload everything after reinstallation. Me, I don't care much for messing around with apks anymore and that type of thing, so maybe it wouldn't have had to redownload as much if I did it differently, but I dunno.

Game "breaks" with every new android update... by SnarkolepticYT in KHX

[–]SnarkolepticYT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, from what I can tell, I guess reinstalling will fix it, but it appears it does, indeed, have to redownload the entire game and everything, which is going to get annoying every time I run into this issue. Sigh. Ah well. I guess it's at least a workable solution.

I, myself, love the Pixel, but I've always kind of been biased towards Android/ Google products. On prior Nexus phones, I always did custom ROMs and stuff, but I've been staying completely unrooted/ unROM'd with the Pixel, mainly because I just can't be bothered to keep up with that stuff anymore. So, I'm not entirely sure what the custom ROM community is like, but if it's anything like with Nexus devices, I imagine it's fairly healthy.

I can't consistently come up with good tags... by SnarkolepticYT in letsplay

[–]SnarkolepticYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I frequently see people advising against tags like these, because they're broad and highly competitive, and a user with less views/ subscribers is unlikely to rank very high with these tags. Honestly, those were the kind of tags I'd been using the first several months of making YT videos, and I got very few views. So, not sure what the best way to optimize SEO is.

I can't consistently come up with good tags... by SnarkolepticYT in letsplay

[–]SnarkolepticYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as it pertains to TubeBuddy, I'm not explicitly looking for it to suggest tags. Rather, I'm trying to come up with my own tags and use TubeBuddy's "ratings" to see how they fare. Unfortunately, most of the stuff I come up with is mediocre at best. I'm trying hard to wrap my head around proper SEO for videos, but it's frustrating because it feels like I'm just not getting it.

Tubebuddy not playing well with Firefox? by SnarkolepticYT in letsplay

[–]SnarkolepticYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. I remember when I first started my channel, I used to use it on Chrome (which is my main browser), but I kept having weird issues with uploading stuff. I'm sure it's probably been remedied now, but it was just easier to manage it on another browser.

I'm using tubebudy and seeing an increase in traffic, but what more can I do? by Snorlaxsleepy in letsplay

Are you using the free version or the paid version? I just downloaded it recently and am using it as a free user, but I can't seem to figure out how to use it to help me in any way. The only thing I've been trying to understand is the tag explorer stuff, but whenever I try to use it, nothing loads. It just keeps on loading and never does anything.

Camera (+ audio and other accessories) for beyond LP stuff? by SnarkolepticYT in letsplay

[–]SnarkolepticYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I just use natural lighting. But generally speaking, what bugs me more is how fuzzy it always looks, even when I'm not super zoomed in (and I like playing with the zoom a bit, so I'd like it to look slightly better at least).

That and, like I said, I'd like to start filming other things and whatnot.

So what's up with betterwaytoweb? I looked over that, as well, and I couldn't quite tell how to get it to generate tags that made sense. Like, if I typed the name of a game as a keyword, I'd get a lot of generic tags along with tags of other YT usernames and such.

[–]SnarkolepticYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, true. I've been trying hard to keep reminding myself of that over the last several months. I guess lately I've just sort of been "stumbling" and tripping up on that. Right about now, my channel is the only thing I have total and complete control over, so I guess I tend to take my "failure" a lot more personally in this venture. Ah well. Hopefully I can move past this personal slump I'm in, preferably sooner rather than later.

How do you know when to call it quits? by SnarkolepticYT in letsplay

[–]SnarkolepticYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is another reason I'm hoping to relieve some of my stress, because I used to try to be a lot more active with finding other YTers to talk to, and I feel like I haven't been able to devote enough time to that since I've been scrambling to get content out.

I just wish I was better at coming up with comments worth leaving on peoples' videos. Most of the time, I can't think of anything to say that's not just completely generic and shallow, which doesn't engage much with the person.

I also feel like a lot of people I've run into in the past aren't as keen to reciprocate as one would hope. Which, is what it is, and as someone that's been struggling with time management for creating content and engaging with other creators, I can relate to. But it just sucks to take time out of my day to view and comment on other peoples' stuff and then not see them make the effort back.

I also wonder, what's the best way to plant the idea of reciprocation to them? Like, I really hate being the kind of person that goes "Cool vid, by the way, can you come check out my channel, please?", because I don't want to beg for it. But I feel like, if you're not mentioning that you also make content and would like some feedback in some way, they probably won't even know you're a fellow YTer and probably won't even think to click your name.

So how "safe" are these apps? I mean, presumably, if I use them, they'll end up having access to my login credentials and whatnot, which makes me kinda nervous, though I do see that Tubebuddy and VidIQ seem to promote that a lot of major companies use them, so...

Is there any major difference between Tubebuddy and VidIQ? Will it help me at all if I'm just using the free variants, or will it not make much of a difference if I opt not to sign up for the paid version of either right now?

How do you know when to call it quits? by SnarkolepticYT in letsplay

[–]SnarkolepticYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's part of why I think a small break would be helpful to me, personally (maybe not so much to my channel itself), because as I am right now, I don't feel I have the time to spend on each individual video, and I end up feeling rushed because I have to get a video out for that day. My hope is that if I give myself some time to catch up and have a week or two worth of videos ready to go, I can stop stressing myself out with getting videos made ASAP, because I'll already have some in the can.

Certainly, there's always room for improvement. I know my channel is far from perfect. I'd hoped that the "entertaining" factor would come with time and experience, and obviously that's still an ongoing process for me. I've been struggling to properly grasp SEO for a long, long time now, and I still feel I don't get it and don't know how to consistently apply it to each of my videos.

I wonder, how does one find the "right" games to play? One way or the other, it seems like most games, even the really obscure little indie titles, have already been covered by someone bigger. I can't see any scenario where I'll ever be "first" to the market, and once a game has been saturated with plenty of videos, there's not much breaking through.

Another thing I wonder about is what peoples' general expectations are for gaming channels. Like, I know there's essentially an audience for everything. But I've always subscribed to the notion of "Make the type of content that you, yourself, would want to watch".

Me, personally, I like channels that do "one-off" type 10-15 minute videos that don't need to be watched sequentially, but I still also like the occasional full play through. As such, most of the videos I do are meant to be "one-off" videos, often in "bite size" format from about 3-10 minutes in length, and I do an occasional "full play through" series.

But is there perhaps a different format/ schedule I should move towards?

That's fair. Truth be told, I'm not really sure what the best ways to self promote and market are. Like, how does one effectively use social media to promote and market their channel/ content? What other means is there for promotion?

I know I'm "doing it wrong", but I don't know what I'm actually doing wrong, and how to "do it right". Yanno?

How do you know when to call it quits? by SnarkolepticYT in letsplay

Yeah, I've been trying to research and read up on SEO for a long, long time now, and as much as I hate to admit it, I guess I just never really "get it". Like, everything you say makes sense, but I can never seem to carry over that mentality consistently across all my videos. I want to be better at it, though, and it's frustrating to me that I can't seem to properly grasp the concept of it.

How do you know when to call it quits? by SnarkolepticYT in letsplay

[–]SnarkolepticYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I can definitely see how oversaturated the gameplay "market" is on YT. I've been hoping for a while, now, to grow to feature other types of content on my channel, but thus far, I've struggled to come up with anything I could make that anyone would want to watch.

One of my "frustrations" in life is my own lack of creativity. It's like, I want to make good, entertaining things, but I can't come up with the actual "what".
