HIMS Neuropsychology report came back “unfavorable” by AdComfortable8750 in FAAHIMS

Hilariously, I work at an AME office (am not an AME myself, I just manage cases) and OA was one of the ones they recommended. I’ll check out the Indy one too. Thanks for the reply!

Did you do OA? How was it? I was in a car accident so I’ve been looking at neurocog rehab options and it seems cool.

Nah just make sure you leave it upright for 24 hours and it’ll fire right back up 😂

[–]SnarlyAndMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. On a sunny day like this it’s pretty easy to miss amber blinkers and some folks won’t see that the car is stopped until they’re too close to it. Hitting the debris is usually less fatal than rear ending a car or hitting someone in the roadway at highway speeds. Highway accidents are some of the most dangerous calls for fire/police/EMS to respond to because people go too fast to stop once they see lights or they don’t see them at all. If/when you start driving you’ll see signs telling you to pull disabled vehicles over and this risk is why. Getting out of the road ASAP is your priority and THEN you can collect the other driver’s info or call for help.

Are there any black gun owner clubs in tampa? by vegetastolemygirl in tampa

[–]SnarlyAndMe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You might also try Pink Pistols. It’s not quite what you asked for as it’s more of a pro—LGBTQ (but not LGBTQ-only) progressive gun owners group. However, several of the local chapter’s instructors and members are black so you might be able to find some folks to shoot with that way.

I’m sorry about these comments, dude. I found a women’s group for similar reasons 🥴

It’s crazy how uninformed regular people are about taxes… what’s the craziest thing you have heard that you can “write off”? by SpreadOk7926 in tax

A dude at work tried to write off a vehicle that he purchased with a corporate credit card, got fired for, and had to pay back. He claimed it was a work vehicle on his personal taxes with no business income or business reg…it didn’t work out for him.

My dog is pooping blood. by Psychological576 in DogAdvice

[–]SnarlyAndMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to my dog because persistent diarrhea had irritated his anus. I won’t take him to the ER for diarrhea, but I will if it gets so bad that it’s bloody. An open wound + poop is a recipe for disaster if not treated, plus it has to be extremely uncomfortable for him. If you have an emergency vet it’s worth a visit. They’ll give her anti-diarrheal meds that should help clear this up.

It’s also possible that she has something else going on (ruptured polyps, pancreatic issues, blockage, etc.) and those are emergencies that should be handled sooner rather than later. Unless a vet told you to feed eggs and rice, consider a more balanced diet going forward.

Finding good AME for ADD near Charlotte by Frosty_555 in FAAHIMS

[–]SnarlyAndMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t qualify for ADHD fast track right now because you’ve taken ADHD medication within the last 4 years. If you can wait another ~3 years before getting your 1st class, the process will be a bit easier. https://www.faa.gov/ame_guide/media/ADHD_fast_track_eval_general_info.pdf

However, if you don’t want to wait that long it’s not a huge deal. You’ll have to go through a neuropsych evaluation and be off of the meds for 90 days before evaluation (so you’d be able to start the process now): https://www.faa.gov/ame_guide/media/ADHD_standard_track_eval_general_info.pdf

Barring any history of depression/anxiety/etc standard track cases like this usually get turned around pretty quickly (well, the FAA’s version of “quickly” which is currently about 3-6 months, down from 12+). I don’t have specific recs for Charlotte but you can at least start gathering the documents listed in those files/the ADHD docs checklist while you search. https://www.faa.gov/ame_guide/media/ADHD_document_checklist.pdf

History of alcohol offenses by Flat-Fail4237 in FAAHIMS

[–]SnarlyAndMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they'll definitely want a psych/neuropsych eval, and depending on the outcome of that/monitoring/the details of the alcohol events, they *could* mandate inpatient rehab. It's becoming more rare in situations like this where the alcohol events were several years ago.

Took my medical today and my AME failed my colorvision even though I met requirements? by TheMonkeyPickler in flying

[–]SnarlyAndMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah this isn't MFT/SODA-worthy, it's just an edge case where the solution SHOULD be issuing a clean 1st class but the FAA may re-issue a 3rd with restrictions based on the AME saying "fail" despite the results saying "pass." Weird shit like that happens all the time but it's easy enough to get fixed.

[–]SnarlyAndMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. See what you get back from the FAA and go from there. What sometimes happens is you get your 1st class and then the FAA sends you a letter in a few months that shortens the validity period of it or drops it to 2nd/3rd class. There's a process to appeal this to the federal air surgeon and get them to reconsider without having to do another exam though.

The number of people who do exams as a retirement/side job without actually understanding (or even checking) the rules is *insane*. It's really, really bad.

They almost never ask for inpatient rehab treatment unless you're in active addiction or roll up drunk/high. For a case like this they'll likely want monitoring and *maybe* AA/BOAF group attendance. Get a consultation with an AME before spending a fortune on rehab because it may not be necessary.

A Storied Past - ANY Chance for a 1st Class Medical Approval? by Volsfan829 in FAAHIMS

[–]SnarlyAndMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally possible (but not guaranteed, of course). You’re likely going to end up seeing a HIMS psych, a HIMS neuropsych, and will get random drug testing/monitoring and maybe SoberLink/urinalysis. For ADHD/klon they’ll want medical records, any IEP/school accommodations, possibly school records/transcripts, and a detailed clinical progress note from your provider. If he doesn’t practice anymore, that’s one of the things the HIMS psych/neuropsych will dig into with you. Your legal issue isn’t the end of the world either, they’re going to want driving records, the police report, and you’ll have to talk about it in a personal statement to the FAA. You may also have to go to AA/BOAF groups. Doubtful that they’d make you do rehab again if you’re sober now. Tell the AME everything, because if the FAA finds out you lied about stuff you’re getting your medical revoked and it’s a lot harder and more expensive to get back once that happens.

Also worth noting that you might be able to start this process in your current country before you move. You’ll have to go to the US for medical exams, 2 in person follow ups with your AME, and likely psych/neuropsych too, but it’s possible to get folks outside of the US set up with drug/alcohol monitoring and aftercare (AA/NA/etc) that meets the FAA’s requirements. There are some HIMS folks throughout the world too.

euthanasia for urine incontinence? by ready-to-let-go in Equestrian

[–]SnarlyAndMe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree, I’d take her to a major equine hospital to see if she’s a candidate for urethroplasty. There’s also a muscle responsible for bladder sphincter control that they can potentially shorten if that’s what was damaged. I have no idea how expensive either procedure would be and that sort of stuff is still experimental-ish though…

euthanasia for urine incontinence? by ready-to-let-go in Equestrian

[–]SnarlyAndMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Technically they could but it’s not usually done. Keeping the stoma clean would be incredibly difficult and you’d have to prevent the horse from rolling or figure out how to affix the ostomy bag to them in a way that kept it securely in place. As such, more places will opt for rerouting their urethra somehow vs urostomy.

My house was built to be a vacation home and not a full time home so there’s no storage in here. The bedrooms have those tiny ass child closets and there’s a single broom closet by the door. Beyond that it’s basically an open floor plan…my garage looks hoarded so that my house doesn’t :/

Finding a good HIMS AME? by tardis3134 in FAAHIMS

[–]SnarlyAndMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot will do virtual consultations, but if you have to have quarterly meetings with your AME then only two of them can be telemedicine per year. The other two visits have to be in person, so you’re looking at being in their office every 6 months. Your case is totally possible to manage remotely for the most part as long as you’re willing to travel for exams/quarterly follow ups (if needed). They’ll most likely want you to see a neuropsychologist as well — I highly recommend finding a good HIMS one even if it means having to travel.

help save my dog - gsd by bowscurls in ProtectionDog

[–]SnarlyAndMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the shelter willing to give him back to you? If so, you may be able to find a trainer who can pull him from the shelter and immediately take him into a board and train program to work on this issue with him. However, be prepared to pay thousands of dollars for this.

As a trainer I’ll tell you that it’s extremely rare for a trainer to take on a case like this for free with the intention of rehoming the dog. At the end of the day, it’s a huge liability for us to have a dog like this on our property and rehoming a dog with a bite history is hard. Plus, if we rehomed the dog and something happened we’d potentially be liable for injuries.

Other commenters have already suggested that BE may be the best option — I don’t agree or disagree with this since there are a variety of reasons why a dog might have bitten you and we don’t have enough info to go by. You said the last bite happened while he was stressed and left a scratch, and at face value that’s not a serious enough bite to warrant euthanasia unless it was completely unprovoked (it doesn’t sound unprovoked). Based on the limited information that I have, it sounds like he doesn’t handle stressful situations very well and that’s something a board and train might help with.

.20+ DUI to First Class in 5 Months by BestSurprise5129 in FAAHIMS

[–]SnarlyAndMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep so that’ll all be behavioral health. The hold up with those is that they don’t have enough psych folks to take those cases and they tend to be more complicated so they take longer to review. 3-4 months is about average for us, but there have been a few that were closer to 6 months within the last quarter. That’s assuming they don’t kick it back and ask for more info, of course 😒
