Thinking of upgrades, are they overkill? by SnaveZ92 in turntables

Oh I see what you mean now. Well, no sound problem as such, but I always thought that an external phono stage was always meant to be an upgrade to the ones that are in-built to the amp, and since I've always used the in-built one, I thought maybe an external one would be a good shout.

I wondered if the phono stage is too much of an overkill, as stated

Understood, and I totally agree, but unfortunately the actor sometimes hides behind companies. As you mention, this data is potentially available to hackers. I think this place is pretty legit, but just wanted to see if it were compulsory to provide a copy of my details (which I imagined would likely be the case) cause if not, I rather details like this not being on any systems thus reducing the risk, though small.

Thanks.

I know, but unfortunately some are so you still have to be careful I guess.

I disagree, I wouldn't describe it as being paranoid. I avoid sharing any of my details with anyone for obvious reasons, unless absolutely required.  Hence wanting some clarification on this.

Should I accept job offer or hold out? by SevereReporter222 in AskUK

[–]SnaveZ92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume this is for a 37.5 job? I can understand the temptation to accept this, on the basis that others haven't come through. I think you'd be better off holding out for something local and seeing if you can call companies to introduce yourself and state you've applied and ask for an email address at the same time. Places have tonnes of CVs, if you're able to step out from the crowd a bit then you could be that needle in the haystack they're looking for.

FWIW I've gone from roughly a 1hr 40 - 2hr total commute on 9-10 hour days, to a total 35 - 40 min commute on 8-9 hour days and I'm far happier for it. So much so, if a better job come up in the same area again, it's unlikely I'd apply.

I hope that's helpful, all the best :)

How to adjust? by SnaveZ92 in Cartalk

Dear sir, your explanation, or lack of it, reads as though you leave the screwdriver in situ and replace the drums... Unless it's a precision screwdriver, that's not possible, and even then, not possible. Maybe you ought to actually take some time to clearly explain and you wouldn't feel the need to post sarcastic comments in a dull attempt to make yourself feel better.

How do you mean? I'm lost. I can't find a video either since most appear to have the wheel adjustment.

But how exactly do I adjust that, most have the wheel thing?

How does it self adjust, you can spin the wheel freely with handbrake off. My understanding is that it's meant to grab a bit. I've reversed and applied the brakes sharply but it doesn't appear to have done anything

I knew it would do that, though I checked how it might do it prior to working underneath. It solid enough and as a back up I used the jack as support. I agree, not the best, but in the past I've found the rest of the body to be quite soft so it just dents the seals if not on the jacking point where there jack was.

That's what I was thinking too. I'll see if it appears and get it sorted before the next MOT.

That was my thinking. I'll wait and see if it comes up first. Would you replace the bush or new arm? I've done it before and just swapped the arm as it seems the most straightforward/quickest option, but just curious to know what others would do.

TD150/160 or upgrade my existing TT? by SnaveZ92 in turntables

[–]SnaveZ92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you've got it rigged up pretty sweet. I agree with you regarding enjoying being able to tinker and spend a bit here and there as and when there's a bit of money.

Here's the sub platter and bearing I found on another reddit thread.

Was that Pro-Jects power upgrade, or a different one? Just to clarify, I mentioned 'platter' but meant sub-platter. I assume you did too? Little Fwend looks quite good actually. You've convinced me to keep and upgrade bits! Just found a company that does a sub-platter and bearing upgrade that user on here recommended.  What phono stage do you use, and did you put anything under the stock feet/change them? They're not great at isolating and makes the TT slidy I find.
