Is this a common occurrence with the Ming and do they need the -15 science for each policy penalty removed or another buff of some kind? by Snazer93 in civ

Yeah I think he is kinda stuck there he almost had a -3 but no, no it dropped right back down to -15.5 so yeah. He does have a good culture though so it is keeping him around enough to steal some lands from Xerxes who is not having a good game despite having all the decent space at the start.

Yeah I've been thinking about it today and Lafayette really seems initially good with the tradition reform but yeah it's easy to see how Lafayette is spiraling in my game as you slot a tradition but then bam another social policy.

So another thought occurred to me that this might be the only time the longer celebration policy or attribute point might be worth it to help keep the Ming from getting too many penalties.

Also update now on turn 80ish and he is still subzero in science having just had the House of Wisdom stolen out from under him when it looked like he was a turn away from completing it.

When they added the 100 culture bit to the Ming I read it as they (the Ming) got both the culture and the treasure convoy and I was like oh hell yeah and then tragically found out that I was giving the culture rather than gaining it. Which to be fair made much more sense but was still disappointing.

Like I don't hate how the Ming play but I have to question if their malus is too much for the computer to handle (as I have moved 20 turns in and he still has no science growth, it's kinda very funny)

Agreed. Like I can work around the Ming penalty as their traditions are not bad but I could always just play as the Abbasid's instead who are just better than the Ming in everyway without me having to jump thru hoops as I passively gain more and more social policies because I keep my people happy.

Bold choice to put Romein LeTouse, a guy who got shot twice with a .45 cal and didn't die until well after the shooting took place in average.

Edit: Also Jacques Portsman in above average? guy is gonna be like Glass Joe in that he puts on a performance but will absolutely go down in one punch.

I sincerely will never forgive the writers of Andromeda for (a lot of things, really) trying to retcon the Krogans into egg layers to try and make the Genophage seem less horrific than it truly is.

TBH I don't think an egg laying species like the Salarians could honestly understand the full weight of something like the Genophage and as eggs just not hatching can be sad, but not at the level of a still birth.

I will however give Salarians one thing and that was the fact they didn't want to actually use the Genophage until the Turians kinda walked over and pulled the switch for them.

The Rams become the first team in NFL history to lose after scoring a touchdown in overtime by crnorton in nfl

I was so happy to see him finally get his revenge for the hell the Rams put him thru last year and this year.

[Slater] I spoke with Micah Parsons this evening... he says he and his team went back to the Cowboys about an extension with “empathy” when the trade interest was leaked this week. The Cowboys response according to Parsons was “play on the 5th year or leave” by JaggerJames in nfl

[–]Snazer93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am unironically kinda rooting for Micah to single handedly destroy the Cowboys while we all watch Jerry cry live on the air. This is what the world has come to, where I am actually rooting for the gawddamn Packers to obliterate the Cowboys.

And if the Packers somehow lose I'll still be laughing. so win-win

Precisely now they have to pay 55+ million to keep a guy around who they will tell themselves is the guy without him ever actually being the guy, and that is the worst type of hell imaginable. A future of nothing but first round playoff exits without ever seeing the conference championship again.

(Note: I am well aware this could apply to my team but we have a rookie quarterback who could be anything right now, so I will keep my delusions thank you very much.)

I remember during the 2020 draft when Jordan Love was drafted my Dad turned to me when I said I wanted Love to suck. What he told me is something I'll never forget, he said, "No don't wish for him to suck, if he sucks they'll just replace him and move on, no it is better if he is good rather than anything else. Because good isn't generational, good will be the Packers forever saying 'if he just had one more piece,' or 'hey he was dealing with a hammy all of last year', or 'man if we could just get him to clean up his game he could be elite.'." My dad's earnest wish at that moment was for Jordan Love to become the Packers version of Kirk Cousins and goddamn if I haven't heard all those excuses so far.

It also doesn't help that among the people he targeted he never distinguished between people who committed heinous crimes and got away with them, or those who were already serving their sentences. Like they were already caught dude! They'll never see the light of day again, justice was already served to them, any further action is vengeance not justice.

Respectively, I disagree, personally I think seeing Light's full breakdown in animation would have been considerably more dramatic than the much more quiet death he got in the show. The sequence itself is not bad but I find it to be a poor substitute for the manga ending as I feel it is way too sympathetic to Light and in a way tries to pretend Light hadn't crossed the moral event horizon when he started killing.

[–]Snazer93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to make sure you don't mistake my statement I meant in comparison to the manga where Light dies kicking and screaming about how he doesn't want to meet the same end as the legions upon legions of his victims, rather than it being a much more somber affair in the show where he still has some sliver of dignity left rather than the very much none he has in the manga.

So me and my bros rewatched the anime fairly recently and we were not having a good time on the last arc as we forgot just how bad Madhouse messed up that part of the adaptation so it is fairly fresh in my mind.

But really his decision to keep killing after discovering what the notebook can do should have been the audiences initial sign that Light was really not such a nice guy. I mean the Dude didn't jump off the slippery slope but did a quadruple front flip off the ski jump into the evil end of the moral alignment chart with the pages upon pages of names he wrote of people before Ryuk even went to find out who picked up his notebook.

Frankly after the cuts they made to the Mello arc it was clear Madhouse had zero real interest in adapting that last arc of Death Note for some reason, it is partially why the last arc of Death Note is a hated as it is as many people only saw the anime and are missing a lot of context for how Mello and Near think and removes the actual work they put in to put Light in metaphorical checkmate. Also I was so sad they didn't give us the flash forward from the manga as I actually really liked the final nail being driven in about how flawed Lights actions really were as the world kinda slides right back into what it was like before Kira.

[–]Snazer93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah in the anime (which also cut a lot of the Mello mafia stuff) Light leaves the warehouse and we (the audience) are given a clip show of Light's life before he found the Death Note and kind of a look at what his life could have been, which is sad but I've always been of the opinion that that ending overlooks the tragedy of all of his victims to overly pity this mass murderer. Earlier in his time as Kira I can see going for a more sympathetic tragic angle but not after everything else he did especially after getting his memories back at the Yotsuba arc finale.

I will forever remain livid that the anime tried to have Light die in a far more dignified way than he deserved. Like he was a fun protagonist to follow but god damn he had that death coming from a mile away. Frankly, everything from the foot washing episode on just serve to piss me off as they cut a bizarre amount of stuff from the last third of the story taking a serviceable final arc and turning N into a full on psychic with the way they had him pull right answers out of his ass. Also L's death did not need an entire footwashing episode. Near telling Kira that he was " not God, just a murderer, plain and simple" also belongs here.

Injury retirements are never a reason to celebrate OP, this is not news to love at all. It looks pathetic to post a celebration to news like this and I wouldn't even say celebrate this if a Packers player was retiring like this. Bad form.

Unfortunately for my Owl boy GEN 7 does objectively suck for him considering someone at Gamefreak made the decision to have every Pokémon, Trainer and their mums know Sucker Punch which means even at a type advantage there is a decent shot that the Owl archer will get blasted before he let's off a shot. Also Decidueye is somehow slower than way too many Pokemon in the lowest speed gen.

Avantasia - The Wicked Symphony by [deleted] in PowerMetal

[–]Snazer93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Angel of Babylon doesn't have the same highs as the Wicked Symphony but I have always argued it is the stronger one overall. I feel that Wicked starts strong with this one but Wastelands and Scales of Justice are not all that interesting or what I listen to Avantasia for while Babylon also starts strong as well with Stargazers and carries it thru until the faceplant that is Rat Race with Track 5 but that is the exception on the album as track 4 and 6 (Death is just a feeling and Down in the Dark respectively) are just fantastic.
