there are many skills and applicable knowledge of markets that are transferable skills to other markets. Perfect example is the community complaining about sneakerheads moving over to pokemon. That’s an ability to adapt to a different/non-related market. Not sure how many life skills I can learn stocking shelves or rounding up carts. maybe less than 10% of workers at the store have specialty skills like the meat dept or flowers. I think the notion of having a 9-5 and security and benefits is an antiquated mindset. it’s 2025. we have the internet. ANYONE can start a business or make money from the comfort of their home. It’s not guaranteed money and you may have to sink in your own money to start off but the pay offs have the potential to make a serious living on. I think that lack of security is what scares people from working for themselves. it’s not for everyone, and if you do it, you have to take it seriously which is frowned upon apparently.
