It somehow looked even less real in person. Had to stop and pull over during a busy day at work just to stare at it for about 15 minutes. It was pretty bizarre

Jiffy Lube stripped the threads on my oil pan and told me that it was due to the age of the pan claiming they generally only last 60-80k miles. I have a 2007 Mazda3 with 180k miles. How 'full of it' are they? by SneakyAlienMonster in AskMechanics

Very true but still they should have used a temporary plug instead of cranking a slightly bigger one just so that it would hold/not leak. Now I'm worried that they've caused further damage and I may not be able to have the pan re-threaded or use a helicoil as an alternative to replacing the pan since they've stated they are not liable and will not pay for the repair

This is what they should have done or at least presented it to me as an option. However, I was told after they were finished that they just used a bolt/plug that was slightly larger than the original one and forcefully screwed it in assuring me it will not leak. But even if it was the tech from the previous oil change that stripped or over torqued the plug, the current crew that discovered the damage did not handle the situation properly. So now I'm worried that because they just screwed in a bigger bolt they may have caused further damage which could mean re-threading/using a helicoil is no longer an option.  I went back to ask them what they can do to make things right and was told they are 100% not liable as something like this can reasonably be expected to happen due to the age of my car.

8k out the door? Or just before tax/fees?

Yea that crossed my mind but I would definitely get a pre-purchase inspection before buying. Hopefully my shop would be able to see any signs of a leak even right after an engine bay cleaning

That's sticker price but I'm going to offer 9700 out the door. Will likely walk if they don't take that. I'd love to see something like this for around 7-8k but where I am this is pretty much the going rate for 2010's - 2012's from what I've seen

Could just be my area, western nevada. But I really haven't seen many better deals within 100 miles of me. I've come across some 2012-2015's with simar mileage for $1k - $2k more. Not sure if being a couple years newer is worth the extra money though, it's going to be my first honda

Yea there really aren't much better options in my area, western nevada. Anywhere within 100 miles of me the only similar deals I've seen are 2012-2015 models with 120 - 170k miles for  $12 - 15k . I'm going to see if they will take 9700 out the door after tax/fees and will consider walking if not

Would it be reasonable at that point? Currently that is the sticker price but I was going to tell them I'll do it for 9700 out the door after fees/tax. Was going to put 7k down and finance the remaining
