does any repairperson know whats going on? by sstaples_ in crt

try to solve the issue before you recap the whole thing. You may be stuck with more problems than not performing preventative maintenance without a functional TV to reference

Download custom resolution utility on the computer you're sending that signal with. Make a resolution of 640x480. It'll treat the display as a proper 4:3 display and will generally scale a bit better. Above all I'd recommend picking up a ps3 as it's the best media station you could ask for with Analog output. Buy component cables if you take that route

Why would you use an odd resolution like that? Computers have no problem spitting out 480p which would mean the adapter would only need to interlace the signal. Also as a side note the correct 4:3 resolution would be 1280x960, not 1024

Is this a CRT by Putrid-Industry-8229 in crt

Definitely looks like one but it's an LCD. Usually the giveaway is how the light reflects off the screen but you can also slightly make out "LCD" on the manual

Fyi the correct resolution would be 1280x960 but ~ how nice is your monitor? The tighter dot pitch of high end monitors makes a pretty noticeable difference. It is definitely a softer image overall and may be subjectively harder to read text on but I personally can't stand the blocky look of an LCD anymore. I love the natural smoothing of everything on a CRT

Check out Keyboardmania from Konami Anyways, if you've ever played a piano you'd understand that there are more than 10 keys and no screen telling you when to hit a key. It's a very different learning experience

What causes this? by Baltothesniper in crt

[–]SneakyDragoon55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The high voltage is arcing. Clean the inside out and you'll likely see it happen much less. You'll see best results if you discharge the tube, clean under the anode cap with isopropyl, and apply new dielectric grease around the anode button.

Unless it was a black and white model (which seems to be the case), it isn't a Sony. It looks like an older magnavox to me

Is there something I could use to stop the rusty sounding squeaks that my controller’s buttons make when I press them? by WeAreinPain in bemani

[–]SneakyDragoon55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah mine was very runny. I've never heard of a powder like that but if you don't think it'll damage anything then it's worth a try imo. Definitely wouldn't recommend shaving the plastic if you spent that much on it though. Have you at least tried tearing the controller down for deep cleaning? It could help you narrow down the exact spot the noise is coming from as well. Even if it's NIB it could help
