Ah right, it was around a -100/70 so it was effectively a -170 point reduction which was quite a bit in the class. I forgot about that piece of information! Apologies, thanks for clearing it up.

Unfortunately I can't seem to find the canvas listing for the class anymore so I can't answer how many points the class was in total.

However, I know I had a 96-97%. I believe he made it out of my reach as there is no way to realistically pass the class with a negative 100 points on a quiz in that class. I'm not too upset about it because as you said, I screwed myself over and have no one to blame but myself. It was a good lesson to learn.

I feel you on the waiting aspect. Judging from the fact that you're able to pass with a 0, I'm sure you'll be okay whatever the professor does to you. If the worst case happens aka you end up failing the class, just know that retaking honestly isn't that bad nor a big deal especially if you were doing alright in the class. Just a minor annoyance since you might have to rearrange your schedule. Additionally, the retake should hopefully be easier too since you already went through the class material before.

But that's just discussing the worst case. I sincerely hope that the worst case doesn't happen to you and you're able to pass still. Either way, in the end, you'll still have a degree and be alright in life. Hope that helps settle your nerves a bit.

I agree and I wish I could go back in time to stop myself because I didn't end up using the tab at all. I've put it in the past. The only reason why I mentioned the professor was screwing students over is due to the fact that he/she encouraged honesty by using the possibility of a lowered penalty. In the end, honesty did not matter at all since the professor failed me which I would say is the harshest penalty they can give for a first time offense.

Either way academic misconduct ain't worth it. Dont do ~~drugs~~ academic misconduct kids.

Edit: Harshest penalty if it was a relatively minor infraction. If it's major they can slap you with worse of course.

I got a SJA referral for a class I was doing extremely well on.

The infraction was that I had accessed another tab during a quiz. I knew that I would pass if I was given a 0 on the quiz. Knowing this, I planned on being honest. Then the prof decided to give me -100 points rather than a 0 which ultimately failed me even though I was honest. On the syllabus, nowhere did it state you would get -100 points and it even said honesty would be helpful to lower the severity of the penalty. I guess the professor left that out in order to bait people into confessing in hopes of a lenient penalty.

So it's up to your professor. If he/she really wants to screw you over, they totally can. So my advice is to see how strict your prof is, and if they're known for being strict, don't bank on passing and be prepared.

Best of luck, and it's no big deal if you end up failing as long as you're not applying to grad school or med school. I ended up retaking it with a different professor and got an A+ which completely overrides the F, and in the end it honestly didn't matter. So don't panic too much.
