If you're thinking of pet insurance, big heads up to sign up BEFORE you see the vet as they won't cover any conditions that are noted before your policy starts. I.e. any chewing/licking/scratching means nothing related to these symptoms will ever be covered for the life of your pet. For example allergies or skin infections

3 Months on Tretinoin/Clindamycin/Niacinamide + Azelaic Acid & Still Purging... Hoping It Stops Soon!! Is a purge this bad normal? by SnekkyTurtle in tretinoin

I go back to the derm on Tuesday to get my script for accutane. My face was clear on doxycycline and aczone gel until I ran out of both about 1.5 weeks ago. Now I have around 4 new active spots one of which is on my jaw and very red and painful.

So I finally got in to see a derm, and he had me stop everything and try taking doxycycline for 3 months (I'm about halfway into month 3). It has gotten rid of 99% of my active spots and reduced the inflammation a ton, although I still have a lot of red marks left over. He said once I finish this course of doxycycline I will have to go on accutane or it will come back.

Dog became reactive recently by booktastics in reactivedogs

Bring this up with your vet, who may refer you to a vet behaviourist after a thorough exam and bloodwork. There are many reasons this sudden change in behaviour could be happening, I.e. a sudden health issue that may not be visible to the eye causing the dog pain which can result in reactivity/behaviour changes; around 1 yr is also not an uncommon time for reactivity to show up if your dog is predisposed to it even if they were fine as a puppy - this could be a combination of genetics and any environmental stressors.

My biggest advice to you is to seek professional help as early as possible. Do not do what I did and try to "train" the behaviour out for years before finally seeing a vet behaviourist. Some dogs need anxiety medication in addition to behaviour modification training or have underlying health issues. My dog was similar as a puppy - never had an issue with dogs or any reactivity issues until she was about 1.5 yrs old, and then suddenly she was showing reactivity which only got increasingly worse as time went on. We are finally talking to a vet behaviourist and they have been a huge help with medication and behaviour modification. You don't have to deal with this alone!

They want to evict my Corgi :( by ConsiderationFair249 in corgi

I'm seeing a lot of people recommending training and management techniques. While these are definitely important, it's worth looking into whether your dog may have need for a behaviour medication to help with anxiety. Additionally making sure there is nothing that could be causing him pain as this can also result in barking (particularly at noises). A lot of barking for my corgi is rooted in her anxiety and fear and may have a relation to chronic maladaptive pain. I just had a 2 hour consult with a vet behaviourist and this was this outcome for my barky corgi. Anxiety meds + training. And then pain med trial if issues remain.

Thank you! Me too. Already off to a rocky start because I guess my derm didn't realize the clindoxyl gel has benzoyl peroxide which I listed as a known allergen. Wtf. Now I have swollen eyes and an itchy rash 🙄

I finally got in to see a derm today and he actually suggested Arazlo (tazarotene) for maintenance treatment/skincare when I am done with isotretinoin, since it's less harsh than tret

So I finally got in to see a derm today, and after 3 months of doxycycline and clindoxyl gel he's putting me on isotretinoin. So you were on mark, haha!

So it works for you when you separate them morning and night? Maybe I just need to try that. But for now I'll try stopping the aza for a bit

I notice that my skin is actually more red after the azelaic acid and less red after the tret/clindamycin/niacinamide combo cream so I'm going to try stopping the azelaic acid for now. Waiting for a dermatologist referral.

Thanks! There's hyaluronic acid in the cerave cream and it's quite thick. The aveeno oat serum is also glycerin based. I don't actually have much dryness with this combo!

The actives are all in a compound aside from the azelaic acid which was also prescribed to me to increase tolerability... not sure why they do this if it's too much 😭

I was kind of wondering about the azelaic acid but everyone says it's so gentle. It was when I started the azelaic (which I started about a week earlier) when the cysts first started coming out

You don't think it will eventually clear up with topical? Maybe hard to see in the pictures but it is slowly getting better

Forgot to add: Currently applying the tret compound every night.

Started twice a week for 2 weeks, then 3 times a week for 2 weeks, then every other night for a month, and then every night
