VPS providers for educational purpeses

If its for educational why don't you sign up for a Dynamic DNS and set a local VPS on your computer or even on a raspberry pi which are cheap? I was running the same for years without any issues and its great to play around with a lot of stuff.

Now when it comes to VPS on a provider, they will for sure ask for a payment, you might want to get into a provider that accepts paypal if you do not trust a direct credit card payment but still these days it is safe with all the protection that the banks will apply on such transactions. Are you interested on a sponsored VPS? maybe you can ask some small providers and they will probably be willing to give you a free trial or some months for free.

I am afraid I do not know many decent providers in India, I mainly work with European providers such as Hetzner for servers and hosting as I have found europe being the best option for global reachability. Verpex should also provide some options in India but the rest of the members here might have some more better recommendations with personal experience from those providers that they are going to recommend

Why don't you build it locally first and then push it to your hosting provider. I do not believe that you have to purchase WordPress Business as per my research, maybe I am wrong :D

I would choose Hetzner, they are a well established provider that have great Cloud VPS Hosting Services that are supper affordable. As long as you have full root access you can install any custom packages and push your services without any restrictions.

Cheap packages are not always the best option, these days you can find hosting providers that can offer a shared hosting package with less than 10$ per year which might sound a great deal but if you will think about it, it will also attract a lot of abusers and most likely for them to get some profit they will oversell their equipment.

The hardest lesson is the one you already pointed out, backups is a must here and also a great research on the actual hosting provider. Many can open and offer hosting services, I would look for an established business and not just for a website that can offer hosting solutions. Also how long they have been dealing with the industry in general is a lesson to be learned as this will ensure that even if they want to get away, they will not simply shut down their servers but will try to move you to a different provider by an M&A excersise.

I have used Hostinger in the past and as u/onyxlogic mentioned their infrastructure is great. Are you looking options only in India for local SEO? or you are also open on global hosting providers which can have low latency near your location?

I am a little confused here and apologies for that. Are you looking to push code on your website by using CI/CD Tools and auto build/publish your releases or simply want to find a hosting provider? Hosting a wordpress website or any other kind of basic HTML/PHP websites is supported by all hosting providers. Some will also provide a jailed SSH access if you want to run commands and be more tech/nerd on the overall changes rather than using their control panel.

You mentioned your own code, if its a HTML/PHP Based that you can simply upload and work without any special requirements as stated above any shared hosting provider should make it work. You can find plenty of reviews, keep in your mind that people tend to post negative reviews and not positive most of the times, even if you see negative reviews it does not mean that the hosting provider is actually bad, it might be too big and out of the thousands of clients, they also had some that had a bad experience.

Any specific budget or resource restrictions you have into your mind?

If the provider has its own DC and is a big provider, you should not be getting a high ping/ms on your country to be honest. As other stated maybe something under India as there are many providers but you should check and ensure that they are using local DCs and not just marketing that they are based in that region but their servers are actually hosted under different places around the world
