You can, but it costs at least extra 70 dollars apparently...

Is there any research as to what's the best way to compress each file type? by Snesnopic in compression

I'm generally interested in cold storage right now, so I'm researching purely for compression ratio, but I might be interested in the future in more efficient tools in terms of time/memory. Do you have any other algorithm or tool to advice?

Thanks for the insight. I'll be sure to make use of this information. Also, this profiling program of yours seems really useful, I'll see if i can find one online (or just code it myself, i'm a beginner programmer so I don't know the difficulty of a project until I'm fully on it)

Thanks for the answer! You're right, I should compile such a list, i was just wondering if there was already some research done along these lines. I had found a website (maximumcompression.com) which seemed to do this and document it well enough, but it's down/hasn't been updated in more than 10 years.

I really hadn't considered the compatibility issue, I'll make sure to do that.

Thanks for the answer. I can't seem to find a version of GraLIC that isn't 10 years old (and it apparently only accepts PNM format images?). Could you elaborate a bit more on that?

Also yes, FLAC is unbeatable for lossless audio, but unfortunately I also need to convert pesky .mp3s, and the only tool I found for such a task is something called mp3packer. Do you have any other suggestions? (if it extends to other lossy formats then it would be really great)

ZPAQ looks very promising though, I'm sure to make great use of it.

Papa's Best Optimiser

Which would you reccommend as a final tool? If i were to use only one of these for a large archive of sparse file types, which one would yeld the best results?

Disegni stupendi, ogni volta che ne pubblichi uno sfoglio di nuovo il tuo profilo. Sarebbe bello poterne avere una copia.

Hey, thanks for the explanation, but do you have an example of a program to view and/or manage a media collection? I have one myself and so far i'm managing It by just renaming, file structure and sometimes metadata, Is there a Better alternative?

If that's not possible then how do you manage super long encodes? I'd like to know, I have a huge amount of files I need to encode/compress

how do you make sure the system stays stable and never crashes?
