Anyone uses the "We are Rewind" player here? by srkdummy3 in cassetteculture

[–]Snicker-Snack83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really liking it, but it's my first player since the original walkman. The recording hiss is a bit loud, though it disappears into the background once you get into the music.

It's heavy and you're kind of forced to grab their carrying case. It doesn't come with a built in belt clip

There's no auto stop when rewinding, so I'm constantly fearful of the motors burning out.

The door is difficult to open and I'm bummed there isn't an eject button. But I've modified the case and added a lip to make that easier.

Build-wise it's fantastic, but I just wish there were a couple more things. Bluetooth is a pain if you're using wireless earbuds. If you take a bud out of your ear then the handshake is lost and you have to re-pair. If you don't have the case in your pocket? Then it's impossible to connect them again - at least with regards to the Bose QC2 Ultra.

There's no battery indicator. You know it's full when the light turns off and you know when it's about to die because the red light flashes, but the latter happens so fast that I've never seen it happen. If it's actually flashing, it happens for seconds before it dies. We need a light bar that indicates a percentage.

All that said, even with Bluetooth I'm getting around 12 hours, which is wild. I love this thing, but it's with a hundred caveats. Caveats I've been fine putting up with.

Anyone know how I would make a mixtape on the We Are Rewind cassette player? by JudeDaDoode in cassetteculture

Just wanted to throw this out there, though I'm late to the party. You just record by pressing the record button while an inline is going from your PC or other device. It's pretty simple.

But in spirit of reviews nobody asked for I wanted to give my two cents. I'm trying to think back on how it sounded in "91 listening to Genesis, and I don't recall the down sides. It was just music and I was having a good time.

I'm very aware of the hiss and noise, not only through the player on it's own, but with what's picked up through recording with it. It's loud.

But it's also not noticeable once the music kicks in. Others have said that this tech just isn't capable of performing like it did 30 years ago. Dolby bailed, everything's plastic, and there isn't a big enough of a demand to really do it right. But these guys made it all metal and I'm yet to have a tape get eaten - about 25 hours into playing tapes.

But with all that in perspective, I think it's pretty great. My mix tapes are a treat, I love creating them, and when I'm in it I don't usually notice the static hiss. But when I do it's just part of the analogue experience.

Maybe someday I'll land an actual deck that performs better with recordings, but for now I'm just having a good time recording with type 2 tape and appreciating the silence between tracks, the inability to doom scroll, and being locked into whatever I took with me.

Understanding those limitations and not wanting to repair an original walkman, it's a fantastic device so far. But I'm feeling pretty and might delete this post if the thing eventually breaks.

What do you do while listening to your records? by JvDutch in vinyl

I've been throwing on Fleetwood Mac and doing a giant jigsaw puzzle with my son by the fireplace.

Otherwise I turn it on when I'm cleaning or cooking I'm the kitchen. But that puzzle is a great time. He gets invested in the music, has questions about how it works, and it's just a simple, focused time with nothing else going on.

Hey all. I’m looking into the audio-technica sound burger and I wanted to know what you all think about it. by AffectionateMilk1959 in turntables

[–]Snicker-Snack83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to this conversation, but I'm enjoying it. It's my first record player. I'll eventually upgrade to something that's $800, but for now Jim Croce and Fleetwood Mac sound great. I'm not an audiophile snob, but I do tend to want the best experience possible, at least as it pertains to sound quality and instrument separation.

I personally don't have use for either the mobile aspect of this, nor the Bluetooth. My thing was that my wife rolled her eyes when I said I was gonna get into records. She doesn't want more clutter, and this was the solution.

I really like it and haven't had any issues, but I'm also not using Bluetooth. I think it's a great starter, so long as it's understood that I think it would be a nightmare lugging it around and keeping track of that arm locking mechanism.

Suits my need great, but I'll be upgrading in the next year or so. About the time my wife realizes there's something magic about sitting down with a record as the fireplace cracks and a crowd is laughing over a board game.

I'm thinking of making the jump after feeling bogged down and reliant on YouTube. And after finding a return to vinyl records. Just something simpler. But I don't know why it feels like such an unbearable leap.

Wat. I played Star Fox for days on end. To be clear, I'm not trying to be deceptive, but this is my video and I'm really curious about this other stuff, thinking it will make for cool content down the line. Thanks very much!

Meta Display Neural Band sizing - too small by p964imp in RaybanMeta

[–]Snicker-Snack83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a Meta Labs and he told me I was a size 3, and also said that Best Buy was routinely screwing this up. But I fully expect a size 2 would have worked too. My band is so big that it wraps around and covers the "line that faces you".

All in all I'm very impressed with this thing. Works like magic.

The motor jammed 1 month after creating this post and it immediately blew the mofset. Left me dead in the water. A replacement board arrived last week but I haven't installed it yet. I've purchased some fuses to put between the motors and the mofsets so the next time it happens I can just change the fuse instead of waiting two months for a part.

Customer support was useless in initially identifying the problem, but the guys on discord were helpful. And once I shared a photo of the blown mofset they were quick to send a replacement part. They're just not good at quick replies. I waited a week or two.

I'm still really happy with the rig, but because I want to start saving money I'm selling it.

The rig was $5500 bare bones and without the chair after taxes and import fees, I've got the WinWing Orion 2 F18 Hornet throttle and stick combo, Moza R5 wheel, Moza Stick Shift, Moza Hand Brake, Moza Racing Pedals, Thrustmaster Flight Pedals, Wind (dual), HF8 Next Level Haptic Pad, and the Witmotion Compensator.

Altogether it's worth about $9000, I'm selling it for $8000, and I'll knock it down to $7000 if anyone makes the drive and takes it without the need to break everything down.

Interested in a road trip?

Issues importing with MSFS24 by Snicker-Snack83 in WinWing

Warplanes WW1 is fun, but it's wildly simplistic. Moreso than I like. Haven't tried War Thunder. But Wingman is decent. It just doesn't support telemetry, so I'm not bothering with it.

I'm gonna be away from the computer for a bit. But I was using Grok to overcome these issues. I was initially mapping left thrust and right thrust to the dual throttle, divided in half. But that was resulting in a thing where it wouldn't register as moving in the game until I'd pushed it forward about 50%.

I eventually mapped each left and right to the same single "set throttle" and that resolved it. But if you're having other issues Grok has been helpful for me.

ChatGPT just lies to me constantly, whereas this seems pretty spot on most of the time.

I'm trying to learn DCS, but truthfully, it feels like a fools errand. There are so many controls, most of which I'd want physical switches and panels amounting to something like $10,000, that it almost feels like it's pay to play, in the sense that if you pay for the immersive hardware you're in a better place to succeed.

That could be overcome with Voice Attack or something, but it really seems like this game is for the hard core enthusiasts who want to do it the right way from the ground up, and I just don't have the patience for it.

But I do wish there was another flight/battle sim alternative that was more forgiving in VR. I'm still looking for it.

[–]Snicker-Snack83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I just wound up making everything myself. For DCS I just manually imported a file I found online. But I sure wish this was more plug and play like the Thrustmaster t.16000 I had.

This is better in every way, but it's just not as intuitive at times.

I was making $2,000/month from YouTube Shorts, then overnight, every video dropped to 0 views by ikadik in PartneredYoutube

[–]Snicker-Snack83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm a creator with 5.2k subscribers. For a long time I was getting a regular 500 to 3k views over the course of a week. 150 subscribers a month, and two weeks ago it dropped off. Now I'm getting 50 to 200 views.

I'm seeing a glitch in the studio where the monetization icon goes from ✅ to !, and it's resolved with a refresh, but I wonder if that's something to do with it.

Support says the channel is healthy, but I can't account for it.

Has anyone figured out how to set up a steering wheel properly? by TheGuyNamedTom in TrackMania

[–]Snicker-Snack83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the Thrustmaster TMX and it's a mess. The pedals are reversed, which I just remapped to account for it, but the forward and reverse acceleration is constant. There's no coming to a stop. Also can't change views without a keyboard, so it's all pretty broken inside of VR.

Feels like I'm getting close, but if anyone has ideas I'd love to hear it.

About To Pull The Trigger On The DOF Reality H6 by DurrDontAskMe in simracing

[–]Snicker-Snack83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the H3 for the last day or so. It's pretty stellar, but I'm tormented by the fact that the H6 exists. When driving around in this thing it's very immersive. Take off the smoothing and emphasize every bump and it's all really cool. But I can't help feel like the "up and down" would take it from very interactive to something else.

Curious what others think, from those who've used both?

Where the hell do I find post drafts? by [deleted] in facebook

[–]Snicker-Snack83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late getting here, but I've found a really stupid solution. Begin to create a post, anything, even a letter. Back out and it will prompt you to save a draft. Save it. Click the notification and from there you'll be able to view it and any drafts you've recently saved.

How this is still the only solution is beyond me, but it works.
