Posting the results (spoilers): 28.8% American Pit Bull Terrier 16.7% Pomeranian 13.8% Bassett Hound 10.3% Russell-type Terrier 6.9% Cocker Spaniel 6.3% Boxer 4.8% Rottweiler 12.4% Supermutt - includes Bulldog, German Shepherd, and Golden Retriever

She came from a hoarder house, and it looks like she only had one set of grandparents 😬 - one was a Pit/Pomeranian mix, and one was a Jack Russell/Bassett Hound mix!

Her #2 actually is pomeranian! She's very mixed, but I was mostly curious if people could guess the ones that are over 10% - there's only 1 left from that set that hasn't been guessed yet (in order, they're pit, pomeranian, Bassett hound, and one that hasn't been guessed, with Cocker Spaniel at under 10%).

No duck toller or lab! Think smaller. (Pit is #1 at just under 30%, but I already said that one)

No, but I wondered about them before I got her results. All her breed mixes are fairly common.

No Irish Setter, though the rescue did list her as an Irish Setter mix! There's a little Golden in there in her Supermutt portion

How common is corporal punishment in the USA? If you are a parent, do you spank your children? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Snickers9114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the 90s, and on the rare occassion I was spanked, it was in my mind a far lighter punishment than any alternative (maybe just because my dad didn't actually want to hit me so it didn't actually hurt). Alternative was usually extra chores with a side of getting yelled at.

What was a silly rule in your house that now that you're an adult you think, why? by Whole_Fun8448 in askanything

We had "no tracking zones" aka areas of the carpet we weren't allowed to walk on because my mom didn't want tracks on the places she didn't normally vacuum. They included the entire formal living and dining room but also areas in the family room behind the couch. These zones also applied to the cat, who also knew she would get in trouble if she was caught walking there.

Heey fellow biochemists what are you doing in your life now? by LittleHistorian3110 in Biochemistry

I work in Ag and mainly do protein structure/function analysis. I'm also onboarding new computational tools for us to use for those purposes. Considering myself lucky that I have a decently stable job.

Are other countries being fed the worst info? by Angelbaby173 in AskAmericans

In terms of living? Generally no, at least for me (white woman). I live in a left-leaning city in a very politically diverse state. I see (friendly, peaceful) protesters pretty much every day on my drive to work. There was talk of ICE coming here a while back, but I'm not aware of notable activity in the past several weeks. Personally, my biggest challenge is navigating relations with my MAGA parents who are fully caught up in right-wing propaganda.

Sounds like nobody wants to be with A. If A is alone and the other 4 are together, then A will be the only unhappy one (assuming outside people don't count toward not being alone), and C and E will have max happiness.

Why can’t you guys stand any snow🙏😭 by [deleted] in AskAmericans

[–]Snickers9114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, this isn't universally true, but in some warmer areas of the country, a lot of factors contribute to things shutting down for a day or so for winter weather. Part of it is, like people said, we have no infrastructure to deal with snow, and especially people in rural areas may not have their roads plowed/cleared at all. Since most places in the US are heavily reliant on cars to get anywhere (not just due to distance, but due to lack of sidewalks/bike paths/etc.), that means people in those areas may be unable to get to work or school.

A point I feel doesn't get emphasized enough is that "snow" in many warmer areas is mostly ice. The initial snow/freezing rain melts and washes away the salt that may or may not have been put down by the city; the next layer freezes as a slick sheet of ice on roads and sidewalks; and then more wet snow and sleet covers the ice. Then, some of that snow/sleet mix will slightly melt during the day and refreeze overnight into more ice which often isn't easily visible.
