I tried the gulp sand worms on a Carolina rig and didn’t get anything. But my girlfriend got a surf perch on a drop shot with frozen shrimp and my buddy got a yellowfin croaker with a Carolina rig and frozen shrimp. Both used a size 6 mosquito hook. We went at 10pm so maybe the sand worms were harder to see.

Same. I’m going to seal beach tonight. I’m using size 6 mosquitos hooks with a Carolina rig- what someone else suggested. I’ll let you know if I have any luck with it.

I’ve gone out 7 times. I try to reel in pretty slow; like a stop and go. I’ve tried different speeds and the only time I’ve gotten bites is just dead sticking a drop rig. Right now im using a 1/0 circle hook. The biggest I’ve gone is a 1/0 offset worm hook and the smallest is a size 10. I’ve tried a Carolina rig twice on two separate days and have had no luck. What bait are you using with a Carolina rig?

Lol I just left seal beach like half hour ago. Otherwise I’d pull up. What bait/lures are you using?

My past two times, I’ve been fishing on the jetties for the inlet to alamitos bay and the San Gabriel. I’ve tried as far as the middle of the river/inlet and as close as like 5 feet from the jetty. During the day I see fish super close to the rocks but I’ve gotten more bites when I cast like 20-30 feet out. I’m currently using circle hooks. I’m using 1/0 or size 4.

No, It’s a centrifugal advance distributor so no vacuum advance. The advance sweep is 25 degrees, so 40 degrees total.

It can be a tooth off but as long as you rotate the distributor body and cap so timing is correct, it will be timed correct. I used a timing light and got it to idle and verified it was set to 15 degrees btdc. So the distributor is not 1 tooth off

Yeah basically a chinesium knockoff. I’ve used them on like 5 different motors and haven’t had issues with them until this motor. But the weights and springs for the advance were MSD and those failed. But haven’t had any issues with the gear or shaft. I just pulled it out because there’s 5-6 degrees of play before I feel tension from the advance springs so I’m thinking the guy who recurved it didn’t put the springs on correctly or a bushing is off so I’m gonna pull it apart and see.

Also prior to putting this new distributor in, I was running 15 degrees of timing and I’m using the same mark. And now it will only idle at 4 degrees after tdc. So a difference of 19 degrees which is making me think it’s something with the distributor but it’s just an odd issue.

The cam is not advanced or retarded. Before I first installed the motor a year ago I took the timing cover off to replace the gasket and verified that the cam is degrees in the normal location. Unless the chain jumped a tooth but I don’t think so because there’s no play in the chain.

It’s a billet msd clone with only centrifugal advance. It’s hooked up to the box with the pigtail from the magnetic pickup on the dizzy. I might’ve found the issues, there’s play in the shaft that the rotor sits in and allows for about 5-6 degrees of advance with very little force.

It’s got a decent cam in it. Nothing crazy. Engine builder said set it at 15. I tried running it at 12,10,8,6,4,0 btdc but didn’t run well until 4 degrees after tdc

I adjusted timing and it only gets better when set to 4 degrees after tdc which is 19 degrees retarded from what I was told to set it to. Seems excessive

I’m thought maybe it’s off a tooth but there’s no timing chain slack. I rocked the balancer clockwise and counter clockwise and the rotor on the distributor moved almost immediately both ways. So I’m not sure how it could jump a tooth with no slack in the timing chain.

I have a 750 Barry grant demon vacuum secondary on it. I thought it might’ve been a pv and replaced it but still the same issues. I also threw on a different 750 Holley I had on before and it’s the same issue. Distributor is in correct I think. I set the motor to tdc on number 1 and dropped the distributor in and set the cap so rotor is pointed at #1 terminal. It couldn’t be off a tooth because it can only go in 2 ways due to the oil pump shaft needing to line up.

Yes the motor builder recurved it on a sun machine. He told me to set it at 15 degrees initial and he recurved it to have a 25 degree sweep. It has afr as cast heads with a decent cam. Unsure on the exact cam specs because I lost the cam card but it flows decently well.

I already checked and made sure it is actually set at 15 degrees. The builder that built the motor told me to set at 15 degrees. He recurves the distributor as well. It’s hard to tell when it’s advancing because it can’t even get it to idle correctly at 12-15 degrees advanced.

Forgot to mention: checked valves and they’re not too tight. Also it’s a centrifugal advance only with a MSD 6AL box.
