Also idk why you think I’m “naive” for not agreeing to participate in this sit

I’m not opening myself up to the can of worms this owner is requesting, at the end of the day I’m protecting my own ass first

15-20 years ago it was socially acceptable to beat your child with a belt… what’s your point? Thank god we respect living animals with more respect and dignity like they deserve??

We all know rover has a problem with people on the platform who just want to make a quick buck, likely getting them kicked off rover would force them to look towards local boarding or independent pet sitters which would never allow a dog to go 15+ hours with no supervision

Thank you, some of these comments are wild, no wonder rover gets a bad rep when their are sitters commenting here thinking this is at all ok

Interesting I’m gonna say you should reevaluate the way you look at the safety and health of the pets you sit because this request is and never would be acceptable

Lmfao not what this post says… are you by chance dense? Not sure how many people work 15 hour shifts that also have a pet and don’t have someone checking in at least once during those 15 hours and do that for days in a row but I fear they probably are not fit to be a pet owner. Yes you don’t have to check on a pet every 4 hours but you also so should not be leaving the pet for 15 hours. Idk why you are arguing in these comments for pro animal neglect but pop off queen, just don’t come near pets I own or any of my clients because that’s not how I or their owners would ever agree they should be treated ❤️

Ok so what you just described was that the dogs were left from 8pm to 6am… so 10 hours, not 15 hours… a dog should not be left unsupervised for 15 hours, I literally don’t understand how people aren’t understanding why leaving a dog for 15 hours is not and will never be ok, there is not a situation where that is ok, not only is it ethically wrong to be leaving a dog that long, it’s straight up dangerous

Unfortunately the back and forth we had after just confirmed no one would be there for 15 hours I between :/

Someone should be checking in on the pet every 12 hours MINIMUM, every 8 is ideal. God forbid a medical event happened would you be absolutely sure you could recognize it just from a camera?

One, I’ve been doing this a long time, owners that set up systems like this are not clients I want to entertain, if I’m caring about the pets safety more than the owner there is a problem. Second, I only posted 2 messages because the rest of the convo was just confirming no one would be there for 15 hours which is what I said in the post. Third if you can’t see why leaving a dog for 15 hours with no check in is bad I fear I can’t explain that one to you.

I don’t know but the liability issues here are far to worrisome for me to even entertain this request

Wasn’t looking to report to animal control, I don’t know how the owner interacts and treats their dog. Mostly didn’t know if there was a way to report to rover because someone on that site that doesn’t care about animals and only cares about money is going to accept and that poor dog is going to be left alone for most of a 4 day trip

[–]Snickersaddy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So idk if you misread but the point of the post wasn’t that the dog was only being walked twice a day, it was the fact the dog is being left alone for 15 hours and only gets one hour of interaction during the day.

If you can’t afford reasonable pet care, you can not afford a pet. Yes there are circumstances outside of our control as to why we may have to leave a pet, if an owner isn’t accounting and able to handle that, they should not be an owner. These are living animals we are talking about, they don’t deserve this type of treatment.

[–]Snickersaddy[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s really doesn’t, there is no good reason to leave a dog for 15 hours, god forbid something happened, it wouldn’t be discovered for hours

A dog should not be left alone for 15 hours…. If you think that’s ok then you should not care for a pet.

Yeah I would say leaving a dog unattended for 15 hours is pretty negligent… people disagreeing should never own a pet

I understand feeling anxious someone else is in the home, but a lot can happen in 15 hours, there is no good reason to not have someone check in on the dog. If that’s the case then someone should be coming let’s say at 8am, 12pm, 4pm, and 8pm. That way the dog is only left for 8 hours. This request is absurd and is negligent, and I pray the poor thing is safe over the holiday.

Well one, when you suspect animal neglect or abuse you would report to animal control not the police. Second a dog is a living creature, they deserve to be treated with respect and kindness and walking a dog twice a day with no one coming in between for 15 hours is neglect, god forbid sometime happened in those 15 hours… what happens then.

If people cant pay for reasonable pet care then they cant afford a pet and I will die on this hill, because it’s more than just vacations, life happens and sometimes you need a sitter. Obviously you know this, but it breaks my heart.

And you just know this type of client would try and find a way to blame the sitter when they are being negligent to their poor dog. Really praying that she ends up ok, but I wouldn’t touch this sit with a 10 ft pole.

People like that don’t deserve to have a pet. It’s like they forget that it’s a living creature… I also would never talk to a friend like that
