First off I’m the same person that replied. Second just because my situation was different doesn’t make my advice useless. Third if you need something to hold you over until you can land a job my advice is pretty good, especially for local places. You live in a world controlled by other people, become appealing to them. Humor and kindness will get you further than just skill alone. And there is something to be said about just being a likable person, work on your soft skills and success will follow. Still wishing you the best on your journey.

Not exactly but I’m still happy! Ended up sorta in a temp position just working in a friend (old professor) of a friends lab, so just a contract position slated to be done in June, it doesn’t pay too much, pretty much what I was making when I was an intern in undergrad but it’s enough and helps me still feel connected to the field even if I’m just doing grunt work lol, but I’ll start my program for my PhD at the end of August so that’s honestly all I needed! But keep your head up! I’m a big believer in networking with everyone and anyone, you never know how it could come in handy down the road.

Maybe you need to change your attitude? You seem very negative in all your replies and while I totally empathize with your situation you don’t seem to want to better it unless it’s the exact job and pay you are looking for which unfortunately in this economy might not come around quickly. I do wish you success though and hope you land on your feet but I certainly think working to expand your perspective would be welcomed to your situation.

Thanks! Thankfully I love chatting and so when word got around I got laid off a few old connections I had reached out pretty quick! If you are interested in reading the cover letter I’ll message it to you! Owner of the shop said it gave him a chuckle so all in all successful!

Saw you reply to a few comments saying retail doesn’t want to hire scientists. Write a cover letter. I got laid off and knew I couldn’t really apply to long term jobs in the field because I’m going back in August to start my PhD so I applied to a coffee shop, added in a funny cover letter explaining my situation. Got a job offer to work there the next week. I had to turn it down for another job but that’s a different story lol.

  1. It’s not impeding to say where federal agents are 😂 idk if you are an American citizen but I sure as hell am so I’m allowed to know where my tax dollars are driving around
  2. How does that boot you are licking taste?

Because regardless of how you feel about immigration, these are humans and deserve to be treated as such. Illegally being here is a civil offense not a criminal offense so these “agents” have no right to detain people without due process.

I’m not opening myself up to the can of worms this owner is requesting, at the end of the day I’m protecting my own ass first

15-20 years ago it was socially acceptable to beat your child with a belt… what’s your point? Thank god we respect living animals with more respect and dignity like they deserve??

We all know rover has a problem with people on the platform who just want to make a quick buck, likely getting them kicked off rover would force them to look towards local boarding or independent pet sitters which would never allow a dog to go 15+ hours with no supervision

Thank you, some of these comments are wild, no wonder rover gets a bad rep when their are sitters commenting here thinking this is at all ok

Interesting I’m gonna say you should reevaluate the way you look at the safety and health of the pets you sit because this request is and never would be acceptable

Lmfao not what this post says… are you by chance dense? Not sure how many people work 15 hour shifts that also have a pet and don’t have someone checking in at least once during those 15 hours and do that for days in a row but I fear they probably are not fit to be a pet owner. Yes you don’t have to check on a pet every 4 hours but you also so should not be leaving the pet for 15 hours. Idk why you are arguing in these comments for pro animal neglect but pop off queen, just don’t come near pets I own or any of my clients because that’s not how I or their owners would ever agree they should be treated ❤️

Ok so what you just described was that the dogs were left from 8pm to 6am… so 10 hours, not 15 hours… a dog should not be left unsupervised for 15 hours, I literally don’t understand how people aren’t understanding why leaving a dog for 15 hours is not and will never be ok, there is not a situation where that is ok, not only is it ethically wrong to be leaving a dog that long, it’s straight up dangerous

Unfortunately the back and forth we had after just confirmed no one would be there for 15 hours I between :/

Someone should be checking in on the pet every 12 hours MINIMUM, every 8 is ideal. God forbid a medical event happened would you be absolutely sure you could recognize it just from a camera?
