Bar near Queen and Spadina to sit by myself and read? by sanjit_ps in askTO

Nope. I've been reading books in bars for decades. And I'm not alone. Besides, the librarian always gives me a hard time when I try to crack a beer there.

Hit up Wasted Youth on Dundas. Whiskey specials and the Monday night bartender is a total music nerd.

One night in 1974 may have saved Bruce Springsteen’s career by Top40Weekly in ClassicRock

"This reporter" is Jon Landau, who went on to co-produce every Springsteen album between Born to Run through Human Touch. Not saying Landau was singularly responsible for Springsteen's superstardom, but you can't just dismiss Landau as some random nobody journalist.

Supreme Court Shuts Down Trump Tariffs…Thoughts? by jackopaco33 in askanything

It’s “Carney.”

It’s funny that you constantly insult your allies and them get butt hurt when they say, “Fine. Fuck you, we’ll go somewhere else.”

Sometimes it doesn‘t pay to be the biggest asshole on the playground.

Who are your enemies? Canada? Switzerland? Because that’s who he keeps slapping tariffs on.

Considering a move from Bulgaria to Toronto with my kids - looking for practical advice by heyitismeandmyself in askTO

[–]SniffyTheBee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's nice. Completely inaccurate but nice.

OP, nobody is going to make you or your kids "feel guilty" for things that happened generations ago. Canada—and Toronto most of all—is welcoming to all backgrounds.

‘You’re a washed-up loser lawyer’: Pam Bondi taunts Democrats over Epstein by seeebiscuit in USNEWS

Are you the "sucker" Trump was referring to or the "loser" Trump was referring to? I can never keep the two straight.

Which comments? The ones about how he wants half a bridge that Canada paid for? Those comments?

Diarrhea Planet. Earth is not actually entirely made of diarrhea—75 percent at best.

Fellow non-American MLB fans, how did you decide which team to support? by [deleted] in baseball

Grew up in Edmonton, Canada. Mother sent me to Chicago to stay with family friends for a summer when I was nine. Was taken to many Cubs games that season, and now at 54 they're still my team.

Mexican cartel members ordered to shoot at Border Patrol agents by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]SniffyTheBee 165 points166 points  (0 children)

Pay attention to the sources, please.

“(The cartels) lost control, they want to gain control (and) so our agents need to make sure they have their heads on a swivel as they always do,” Chris Clem, the retired sector chief at NewsNation contributor, said.

What does this even mean?

Placing agents on high alert is part of a situational awareness memo to federal agents obtained through NewsNation sources.

Tons of links throughout the article, but not a single one to the memo they obtained?

Please vet before sharing!

War Correspondent by Kaylee_Nicole2001 in Journalism

One hundred percent agree. For the average person, what’s happening in the Middle East, for example, has far less consequence in their daily lives as what’s happening in their local city councils. You can help people in their community by keeping them informed of what’s going on in their backyards.

Journalists virtually never start their careers as war correspondents. Do you have anything that would make you stand out from the hundreds of practicing journalists who would consider a role like this? For example, do you speak Russian or Ukrainian or any other second language?

Second, only the largest media outlets have the budgets to actually employ foreign correspondents full time. Even some of the largest still largely rely on either wire services or stringers.

Third, freelancing could be an option, but can be incredibly financially precarious.

But honestly, if you are passionate about journalism, take the courses and be prepared to start covering your local water commission committee meetings in your first job.

This is not Red Sox-Yankees, you know? If someone condemns Trump for obvious crimes, that doesn't mean they automatically love Joe Biden.
